I thought I was getting too old for games, maybe they were too politically loaded, and then I played Metal Gear Solid 5.

Hideo Kojima, thank you for being the wildly unique freak that you are. I'm engaging with an alive world and game systems I've never before imagined. Here I was thinking Breath of the Wild was interactive. How wrong I was. MGS5 is a breath of fresh god damn air.

I need new. I need more. I don't care your definition.

I need more of this kind of beauty in my media.

hideo kojima is just a fucking conspiracy theorist who sucks at writing games and making movies and is only good at game designing.

No one grows too old for gaming; it's just that the gaming industry right now is rancid ass. 90% of my playtime today is comprised of games from the early 2010s and before, and will likely continue to remain that way for the foreseeable future.

MGS5 even with all its flaws and unfinished feeling is a good game. Not perfect but it was good. It also looks pretty good as well and will be one those games that ages better than others. The stealth might be pretty weak and the AI kind of stupid at times. But it's a good looking game even now. The Fox Engine is pretty amazing. It's one of my most played games. I have 267 hours in that game. Sure, others might have way more but for me that's a lot.

I think Afghanistan is the best area in the game. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan isn't a subject that gets much attention in gaming. It's just a really interesting setting. The Africa part of the game is fun but for me I like the Afghanistan section. It fits really well with the game IMO.

The endgame weapons are virtually unobtainable with the absurdly high resource costs and the research unlocks you will have by the end of act 2 + some FOB raiding will be very underwhelming with all of the super drones and MGS1 era upgrades the cheaters already have. Not like it matters at this point 9 years later.

I agree. To be succinct as possible they mastered the atmosphere, and I say this while often teamed with the booba sniper. Hideo and his team take this goofiness so seriously I can't help but do so too.

It's the journey not the destination. Eager to try Death Stranding.

Lord knows what kind of autism is in the hardcore multiplayer MGS scene. I read online the PS3 players removed all nukes from the game. Lame, but good on them I suppose.

The nukes were removed on all platforms and the cutscene plays automatically now. There is no real multiplayer scene besides the autists behind SaveMGO. MGO 1 and 2 were actually fun and not full of aimbot hackers. MGO3/the multiplayer for MGSV was just stupid and DOA shortly after launch. Was not even funny kojima brand stupid, but just not fun and the game plays like its at 1000x speed with all kinds of connection issues outside of the 1v1 base defense/offense player FOB missions. CQC takedowns are the only equalizer between mid range players and cheaters who had maxed out upgrades within a week. Because the guns are not balanced for multiplayer and will 1 shot stun or kill you. Though strapping a fulton balloon other players was always funny.

Its an okay singleplayer sandbox and surprisingly few people know you can play as mother base soldiers other than the main cast. but if you want all the fancy MGS1 stuff and fun tacticool weapon attachments, you have to do nothing but constantly raid other player FOB's. Because there's no way you are getting that much crafting material from even completing all the bonus missions. Konami never did bother to add act 3 in either and I hope they retcon that stupid mecha with a metal gear rex head out of the franchise. It completely invalidates the existence of MGS1 claiming metal gear rex is revolutionary in the 2000's when they have fucking gundams in 1980. Kojima became an unfunny hack starting with this game.

The story isn't as good as the original, but it's still a game based on all out fun, definitely recommend

I never bothered with the multiplayer much. I heard people complain about how your FOB can be raided even when you aren't playing the game. To this day there are still people who will revenge raid you for raiding their FOB even though they haven't played the game in years.

To be honest Death Stranding looks like boring shit. It also didn't sell that well. It's just a walking simulator mixed with package delivery simulator. You literally play as a human pack mule. I didn't even bother with that game.

I knew you could play as mother base soldiers. I never got into the multiplayer. All I ever played was the singleplayer and I completed it without ever messing with the multiplayer. I just grind for materials and stuff in singleplayer.

I fucking did. Best I can say is at least I played it loaned.

It's the textbook definition of a dadgame. If you enjoy playing post apocalypse fedex and enjoy setting up infrastructure, you'll have a great time with it. On the other hand of you expect to have any sort of satisfactory combat or expect a good narrative, look elsewhere.

Gameplay outside of traversal is pretty jank (and even traversing can be very jank) and the story is absolutely retarded and an excuse to get REAL actors in his game to jackoff to (it's also why everybpdy looks incredibly lame once they take off their masks when relevant). The atmosphere is pretty great though.

Disclaimer: this is all based on the original ps4 release. The steam one I believe changed some things.

Huh, a spinoff of the Yakuza series? Always hear a lot about them. Give it a shot, thanks.

Cool. Appreciate your input man. Still going to give it a shot.

Wanting to try out some turn based games as well so I've been juggling the Persona and Final Fantasy series. Not quite sure which number of game to start with so happy for others to give some suggestions.

I'll share some unique games I've played worth a mention.

Worldbox - Birdseye view of a high fantasy world. Modify the environment, land, and perform events with a godhand. Few hours of fun toying with the mechanics and more to come in updates. Cute game.

Slay the Princess - Visual novel. Creators have my highest respects for the love story they wrote. Voice work is great as well. Never once touched the skip button.

This War of Mine - Not sure what to call this one. Romanian(?) civil war that went on for years. You control a group of survivors trying to make it to a peacetime event in a set number of days. Weigh food and hope on a scale. Worthy experience. Darkest of times at least we have the little ones.

Saelig AND Medieval Dynasty - Essentially they are both middle ages settlement / family roleplaying / management games. Going to be brutally honest they aren't worth the money but it's too late for me now. Regardless they do have features to engage with that feel complete, still being updated with new content ever so slowly, and for what they are I was able to get immersed for awhile. Barely passable for me.
