I think that's a bit optimistic, as Sargon was being pelted with shit constantly and as far as anyone knows he turned it into the meme about wetting his own pants instead of doing anything about it. Not that he needed to start a street brawl or yell about arrest like a rage pig, but he could have not been smug about being pelted with shit and demanding people do it more.

I agree he wasn't single-handedly responsible for UKIP's demise and that you can probably put most of it on Farage leaving, but there was clearly an appetite within the party and nation in general to "get Brexit done" (however ambiguous a statement that is), so lingering as a threat to the tories made sense, even if only in the form of a potential election-swinging protest vote

Unfortunately they lost their most popular public avatar and the only remaining media coverage of the party was either Carlgon's gaffes or spokespeople/Batten himself trying to cover up for Carlgon's gaffes, and given the crossover between Brexit voters and Norf FC the least attractive thing to their electorate would have been a posh-sounding southern fairy, smugly throwing insults at everyone (until, somehow, Boris)
