You have to fast, usually nothing to eat after midnight, clear liquids until a few hours before surgery. Different surgery centers and hospitals will have slightly different timing, but it'll be something around that for an elective surgery. They will almost certainly have written instructions, whether a webpage, a patient portal message, or photocopied preop instructions. Probably a combination of all of those.Don’t you have to fast prior to surgery? To prevent aspiration? I reckon her not being able to have snacks might be as big a threat to not getting it done as the anaesthesiologist.
However, it's likely that J will be staying at the AirB&B the night before surgery, then checking into the hospital early in the morning. When they check you in, they ask the last time you had food, and the last time you had liquids, but they don't shove a dipstick down your throat to make sure you aren't lying. So you're right, that could be a fun wrinkle!
