I don't have the words for how I'm feeling about this. Immense sadness, I guess. A bit of heartbreak.
I originally joined KF after many years of lurking because of this whole saga, and now it's over.
I always held on to him still being alive, and I think most of us didn't want him to be dead.

There's a lot of unanswered questions. The many people in his life could have handled it much better and we would have accepted the information a lot sooner.
It was a complete clown show. A whole circus. But what Null has provided, in particular, seems very definitive to me.
Rest in peace, Byuu. However much you may have hated us, know that we were really rooting for you.

I guess this is an end to the Byuu incident, which is what brought me to KF. If he actually killed himself it is obvious that it's because he was an unhappy tranny (redundant) and not particularly liked in his own little niche. He was a victim of society pushing transgenderism and his own autism, but naturally KF will take the blame (unlike any mainstream social media sites which are more credibly responsible for much worse).

How much does that accuracy actually matter though? Maybe it's because I'm not an emulation turboautist, but part of me wonders what benefit there could be to an SNES emulator that actually has system requirements.

Speedrunning and other competitive venues might value/demand it, but other than that, I can't think of too many people that would care. ZSNES might not be absolute perfect emulation, but it's fine for firing up the old SNES games I grew up with.

game preservation, some games were really shittily programmed to depend on the specific clock speeds of the SNES and how it behaves and if that behaviour isnt replicated exactly as is then the games look wrong or just straight up dont work lol

but for the average gamer that doesnt play really weird obscure titles this does not matter and zsnes or snes9x does the job just fine.

The thing that gets me is that the outcome where byuu masterminded a plot to get the Farms taken down, then went off into the sunset like the end of a movie, likely to continue his livelihood completely detached from the situation is the one that makes byuu into a more interesting and successful character.

Unlikely. His face and name were already made public so if he had indeed put up an act to disappear and tried to resurface OTI under another alias it would just be a matter of time 'till he was exposed again and all the shit he did done would come back to get him like an ever-haunting ghost.

Plus, it didn't went according to keikaku because the Farms are back on the surface web again. He just managed to cause a shitstorm and made it more difficult to access the forum for us all (eating that damn onion can be a pain in the ass) but we were and are still rolling. So in the long run the drama was all for nothing.

Adding to this, there are also quite a few games that seem to work normally at first, but will eventually freeze or lock up if the timing is wrong. Der Langrisser (which Byuu worked on the fan translation of) is an example of a game that exhibits this behavior at random in ZSNES, sometimes after several minutes or even hours, unless you set the sound to monaural for some reason. And it's a pretty good game worth playing. But that's how weird these edge cases can be.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't bsnes/higan the emulator that was super accurate, but required fairly beefy hardware to run at full speed (for a 16 bit console, no less)? Or am I thinking of something else?

Snes9x is the one that really reigns supreme, zsnes has some problems emulator nerds bitch about but bsnes has always been "super accurate to the point that it doesn't even really matter".

Gigachads continue to use zsnes anyway because the UI is comfy.
