UN passed a resolution that divided British Palestine in two, one part Israeli, one Arab. Israelis got the bigger half, Arabs the smaller one. British obeyed the terms of resolution, and left within the deadline prescribed by UN.

Israelis were free to complain all they wanted, but they didn’t become free nation until UN.

At any rate, what’s the bias?

Yeah but the land divisions of the resolution never happened due to Arab rejection of the partition. When a state of Israel was founded, countries like the US and USSR recognized it independent of the UN resolution. The British didn't leave due to the terms of the UN, they decided to leave and notified the UN they were planning to leave, leading to the resolution that created the partition. The Israelis didn't become a free nation until the british left since the UN resolution was a bust.

The UN condemns Israel more than any other country in the world including dictatorships like North Korea. It's to the point where even the UN Secretary General noted it:


Unite Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Friday said that the UN has a "disproportionate volume of resolutions, reports and conferences criticizing Israel" while delivering a statement marking his ten-years in office.Ban continued by remarking that "in many cases, rather than helping the Palestinian cause, this reality has hampered the ability of the UN to fulfill its role effectively."



In response, Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said that Ban "had admitted the clear truth," and added that the the UN's hypocrisy towards Israel has broken records over the past decade. ""During this time the UN passed 223 resolutions condemning Israel," Danon continued, "while only eight resolutions condemning the Syrian regime as it has massacred its citizens over the past six years. This is absurd.""With a new Secretary General set to take office next month, we look forward to the possibility of a new era of fairness at the UN," the Ambassador concluded.

I have to disagree. UK abided by the resolution and withdrew. You correctly point out that the Arabs took advantage of that, but that hardly removes the fact that the land was given to Israel, and it does not remove the fact that Israel wouldn’t be were it not for UN.

US and Soviet Union both voted in favour of the resolution, and after it was fulfilled, both recognised Israel (not that it really has any bearing)

Your theory assumes that Israel would have just appeared somehow, and ignores every step to create it.

At any rate, that’s neither here not there. My original comment was the first thought that shot up my mind, if you disagree, that’s fine.

Perhaps that has something to do with differences between North Korea and Israel? Far be it for me to defend either of Koreas, but the last military conflict (if you can call it that) North Korea had was a naval battle between one North Korean vessel and Japanease Coastal Guard. Before that it was the North South Korean war in the 60’s. Compared to Israel, it has had some sort of military conflict every few years since its inception, and like it’s common for Israel, most were disproportionately violent towards civilians (though don’t take this as a support for its enemies either).

I also must point out that your citation leaves out an important bit. The UN secretary general has flipped flopped on his position on this since 2011. Notably, UN (allegedly) pressures its members to be pro-Israel.

Didn't the Jews already outright own the majority of land given to them in the partition? And yeah, they had 56% of the land if you include the vast, underpopulated desert in the south- but the vast majority of urban land was basically given to the Arabs.

I dont think that desert is even really occupied to this day, and otherwise they were given basically their own version of the Gaza strip along the coastline

Well, of what was left of the region of Palestine after the proto-UN (League of Nations) had already split off the larger eastern part as an Arab country (Kingdom of Jordan) in 1922.

As a result of that UN vote, nascent Israel got some pro-forma recognition as a country (by some other countries).
But in practice, they became an independent nation by winning the war that followed.

Rainbow is right that since Israel's founding, the UN has been largely hostile to Israel - held back only by US vetoes in the Security Council.

For example, year after year, the UN's joke of a Human Rights Council (UNHRC) produces vastly more resolutions against Israel than against any other nation.
Entire genocides, wars with child soldiers, etc. go by without the UN weighing in. But if a Jew adds a balcony to his house in east Jerusalem, a histrionically-worded UN resolution about "settler expansion" is sure to follow.

The UN has long become the main venue for Arab (and leftist Western) governments to express their butthurt about Israel.
So yet another UN condemnation isn't very noteworthy.

That's the issue with many of these maps, it doesn't tell the full story. I won't comment on the geography of Israel but I know there's a vast desert that's basically unlivable, which is always shown indiscriminately in those leftist images.
Countries like Australia and Russia are huge in landmass but most of it is unlivable.

Gaza is such a great location geographically. They have arguably world-class beaches wedged in the middle of a region that is hyper-conservative. If I were Hamas, I'd just turn that into a the Vegas of the the Middle East. Both Rabbi Rosenberg and Abu Al-kebab can go there to gamble, get high on weed, and plough whores.
