When we had to put our dog down a few years ago I felt the life pass out of him through my own hand and I felt like I was betraying myself by not crying like everyone else there for it, including the family friend who had hardly known the dog and was there to help us bury him.Of course he did. Nick would sometimes go on these rants about how "men don't cry" replete with much MRA bravado. He'd give examples like if you cried at your parents funeral then your gf/wife would never respect you and Drexel would get her. So I'm not surprised he'd be doing that with his boys, even though it's not too unusual for a very young boy to cry if he sees daddy all drunk and wearing freaky clothes.
Maybe it was something like "my good boy will live on in my heart" or that I was the one holding him while he went but I felt a duty to be stoic. But these are the times that men are meant to weep.
