From what I could remember, there were no state of emergencies during the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse when I saw it, so it's weird to think there will be a state of emergency for the path of totality in 2024. There has also been a few notable earthquakes days leading up to the eclipse. So many other extreme theories were predicted leading up to, during and after the eclipse with many Christians (for the billionth time) claiming a rapture is gonna happen during the eclipse along with other apocalyptic theories. People are also saying the Devil's comet will be visible during the Total Eclipse. In my opinion, some weird things are gonna happen but it's not going to be as extreme as what others are saying. I don't take these "prophets" seriously.

We live in clown world, there's no way it'll be stranger than what normally goes on.

If people want weird things to happen they're just going to have to make them happen themselves.

Nothing strange is going to happen. And the only reason you think something strange is going to happen is because you wish something would but it isn’t.

And you’re in here catfishing for ideas from other weirdos.

And when you want something strange to happen then the slightest little thing becomes a sign.

I dropped a coin and it landed on tails. It's a sign!
I had some cereal and the milk was sour. It's a sign!
I burnt my toast. It's a sign!
I saw three red cars in a row. It's a sign!
ect... ect...

If you want something weird to happen bad enough your brain will find a way to convince you that something weird did indeed happen.

Im in the path of totality but its going to be cloudy and maybe even rainy. And it sucks because Im near a major metro that people love to travel to so the city called in a state of emergency because theyre expecting like 2 million people to show up or some shit. So theyre all gonna be here and get blue balled and then be annoying fucking around.

I dunno, two weeks ago none of us would have guessed that a large shipping container being manned by streetshitters would collide with the 3rd longest bridge in the world, destroying it instantly. Who knows at this point.

I'm pretty excited for it. I'm in the direct line of totality and I'll be off work that day to enjoy it. Celestial events are always fun to watch, especially an eclipse. I've been enjoying fucking with all the conspiracy tards that think the end of the world is coming or some other dumb shit.

Nothing ever happens, but if it happens it's a psy-op, false flag, or natural disaster that will be fumbled so hard, the recovery from it will make the post-Katrina recovery look great.

My dad's school had to release a letter because apparently a lot of parents called the school out of concern about the eclipse, and children are naturally curious and stupid enough to want to look up at the sky to see what the deal is. The school's treating Monday as a "rainy day" scenario and are going to keep the kids inside all day, or at least until after lunch is over.

We're not even in the path of totality, partial is going to be like 60% at best before noon and it'll have the lighting of a cloudy day. People are dumb.

In 2017 my city got near totality; the path of totality started about 30 minutes' drive away in a rural area, if you turned off of the freeway from here. Nobody was planning for the apocalypse, but the hospitals in my city staffed up and the state and city cops lent a hand to the rural areas that were preparing for an influx of tourists.

You have to expect more people driving in an unfamiliar area with tiny confusing roads, under time pressure, are naturally going to cause more minor accidents and at least drive into a few ditches. Local Fire was also at the ready, because having way more people at usual getting together outside, in the parks and in fields, meant more opportunities for someone to mess up and start a grass fire (especially since it was August).

It's like cities that host the Olympics preparing for way more humans in their area, or like the Fire Department being on the lookout on July 4th.

One thing has changed, though:
Personally, I'm waiting for some little shits on TikTok to gin up a "stare directly at the sun during the eclipse" challenge/fad/meme about half a day before it happens, and either a dozen or two kids nuking their central vision, or the media moral panic.

Love me some correlation/causation logical fallacies... but I'm also a huge fan of the Heaven's Gate Away Team LULZ. Here's a short bus list of things for shit'n'giggles:
