I promise I'm not making this up: I have a friend who works in a supermarket. He confided in me that a couple of months ago he was "groomed" by an older coworker in her forties. She pulled out her phone and showed him explicit pictures of her in lingerie. He broke down in tears to me, telling me he was traumatized, that he's having to go to therapy for it, and that he feels like he was violated because he didn't consent to being shown the pictures. He's 25.

I was taken advantage of at the age of 16 by an older female teacher. It never reached full intercourse, and at the time I wouldn't have said it effected me.

I felt the same way until I watched dreading's video about the case (the interview is included in it). There were a couple of teachers I'd have fucked when I was that age and I just couldn't see why people made a big deal out of this kind of thing. I used to roll my eyes when people talked about grooming but, again, after watching dreading's video it made sense to me.

The sex itself isn't what traumatizes the guy in this situation, it's the insane manipulation he's subjected to which is reinforced by the sex. When the older woman does something like this it isn't just about the sex for her, she also wants an emotional connection and to have complete control over the relationship. They use a teenager's curiosity about sex (and general horniness) to get access to guy they find attractive in order to manipulate him into the guy she wants him to be.

The interview had an effect on me because I could really tell this was the moment he realized how fucked up his relationship with her had been. Anyway, here's a link to the video:

I'm just gonna play devil's advocate and say an age gap that big more often than not is disgusting regardless which gender is which age. 18 wouldn't matter here, it's not a legality issue it's a morality issue. There's a power imbalance.
