RIP Thread

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I'm actually very sad about this one, I don't want to deep-dive the allegations or read his suicide note because it will just bum me out too much but it sounds like some #MeToo shit got flung his way and spiraled too fast. I enjoyed his videos because he focused on comics from an artist's perspective and had a lot of insight.
I've seen the DMs. They're pretty gross actually. John K level shit.

For fans of YTV in the 1990s (also shown on Family Channel in the United States), Joe Flaherty also played scientist and father Dr. Fred Edison in the Maniac Mansion TV series which was loosely based upon the Lucasarts point-and-click adventure games.

Geez, this aired 1990 to 1993? That long ago? It felt more like a mid-1990s show than an early 1990s show to me.

YTV reraired Maniac Mansion a bunch of years, that might explain why it felt more like a mid-1990s show.

Joe Flaherty also starred in Happy Gilmore and that deleted scene where he got a taste of his own medecine should have stayed in the movie.

I wouldn't have guessed that Flaherty was much over 70 by now. I never watched him in much besides the end of Back to the Future 2 when he comes in out of the blue as the Western Union guy.

I think I was somewhat conflating Maniac Mansion's production run with that of The New Addams Family since they were both family-friendly sitcoms set in comically spooky mansions that were based on existing properties, shot on the cheap in Canada and shown on YTV although I was also surprised now that I've looked it up that The New Addams Family didn't air until 1998. I could've sworn there was at least a little overlap in production dates between the two shows but, yeah, I guess I'm remembering reruns of Maniac Mansion having aired much later than 1993.

Pretty niche, but Benoît Pelletier, a champion for the enforcement of Quebec's distinct society status within Canada and fervent believer in the place of Quebec nationalism within the Canadian federation as well as oversight and limitations of the federal government's spending. Beyond his career, he was a very affable guy, super intelligent, quick-witted, generous with his time, and had a knack for making people genuinely care about whatever he was talking about.

Oh my goodness. I forgot this existed, and I never knew what the show was called. Only caught it airing at night, without seeing the intro. I only ever saw it once or twice, I thought it was a fever dream. I can now download the show and watch it. Thank you.

And RIP to Mr. Flaherty.

RIP to Algiers, New Orleans, Louisiana-born rhythm and blues singer Clarence "Frogman" Henry, famous for his 1956 hit "Ain't Got No Home", who has died at age 87.

Wasn't there a version "Ain't Got No Home" with a much longer intro, as in the version that Rush Limbaugh used for his "Homeless Updates"? I can only seem to find the short intro version on Youtube (not counting live performances). I could see how the short intro version would be suitable for a 45 rpm single but was there a longer album version or did Clarence "Frogman" Henry re-record it later on?

I only know it from being used in Casino, I believe Joe Pescis' character was beating the crap out of Don Rickles at the time.
