Extremely rare exceptions occur where someone is actually bullied to death using false information, such as what happened to Alec Holowka by Zoe Quinn (may he rest in peace, and may she burn in hell sooner rather than later). So, two things to keep in mind regarding the accusations against the individual that has taken their life. I suggest weighing the evidence at hand, the source of said information, etc... and coming to your own conclusion.

I hear about people facing serious criminal charges killing themselves all the time, but don’t know of anyone who has killed themselves due to these types of accusations with no criminal charges.

The reply to that was speculation that he might have old dirt on them (which would be his only insurance against treachery at this point). I think we just saw what a dogpile can do to someone. I think ExGater has every reason to want to stay away from the crossfire for as long as possible. A lot of people outside of CG don't understand that the "mark" doesn't disappear with time. No matter how long it is, once they see your name, the attacks come right back to life like they were fresh and new. I don't consider it cowardly to not want to invite a wasp's nest of perpetual assmad to follow you forever. This functions on both sides of the CG approval isle. I've been telling these guys to jump into making left-to-right manga. VIZ media is holding open submissions, and Shueisha (VIZ's parent company) is taking direct submissions that established mangaka vote to approve a listing on Jump PLUS (the digital version of Shonen Jump), and a possible option for an anime (Ranking of Kings started out on Shueisha's Creator PLUS contest, which is open to the US now.)

Unfortunately, there's a contingent I can't mobilize to change their path. Some of them think holding onto the Slums name is wise; others still dig their heels in and say "He can change CG all he wants, I'm 2018 CG!" which comes off as "The Communists can change Russia all the want, I am an Imperial Russian!" My first thought was Apollo Legend who claimed to kill himself over Youtube drama, but also cited health problems.
