Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Uh I think this is big. One Republic did the ED for Kaiju .no 8. Is that a first, a western band making music for a anime?
It's happened plenty of times before. Speed Grapher used a Doran Doran song, and Neil Sedaka helped make Zeta Gundam's first OP (his daughter also did music for Queen Millennia). Steve Conte has done a bunch of anime stuff with Yoko Kanno, including Brain Powerd and RahXephon.

Decided to pick up SBR because I'm not expecting it to be animated anytime soon and something has been bugging me a bit. Part 7, 8 and 9 aren't set in the new universe that got shown at the ending of part 6 right? The entire Joestar family tree/history is so different that it has to be, yet someone spoiled a bit of part 9 that the fact that rohan is part of the main cast again and is completely the same as in part 4, from his name, stand, and backstory. It's probably just Araki is showing favoritism to his self insert again unless Made in Heaven rewrote everything going back before Part 1

The new universe in part 6 is just the same as the original, with only Part 6 being changed alongside Jotaro's name.

Parts 7-9 are in their own universe with many counterparts to the originals, but are mostly different people. The differences vary but Rohan in part 9 is pretty much the same as his Part 4 self. Part 4 and 9 Rohan are different people, so its more Araki favoritism if anything.

The original Project A-Ko movie from 1986 had a soundtrack composed and recorded in Los Angeles by Americans Richie Zito and Joey Carbone with songs performed by Annie Livingston, Samatha Newark, and Valerie Stevenson.

I doubt that was even the first time foreigners recorded music for a Japanese anime production (not counting dub soundtracks).

Watching the 1981 urusei yatsura series, this is very cute and I like the op. Very refreshing to see girl characters loving the guy characters and it not being depicted as problematic. But I still wouldnt fuck Lum, she seems like bpd pussy. Shinobu seems more well adjusted.
Also finished watching paranoia agent as part of a Satoshi kon binge. Very addicting op and very unique show, its incredibly fucked up.

Oh the closing song is good. This is shaping up to something that should be really really good. The fact that they focus on the complexities of cleanup indicate it will poke fun at the genre
Kaiju 8 seems like a winner for the spring 2024 season. It starts off like Planetes where the protagonist is doing a mundane job but soon finds himself in extraordinary circumstances. I've been putting off reading the manga far too long.

It's not the first. Maison Ikkoku episode 24 was a special where the opening is by a western artist. The opening is Alone Again by Gilbert O'Sullivan.

I assume you're using either Viz or MangaPlus to read stuff. I'm not going to say what I like to read, but what I've seen people compliment anyway.

-Tuesday: Marriagetoxin is about a guy who has to get married and have a kid or else his sister gets bred by yakuza, so he gets the help of a swindler in order to score a wife. Chainsaw-Man is Chainsaw-Man. Magilumiere Co. Ltd. takes magical girls and makes them into a profession.
-Wednesday: Kindergarten Wars is about a bunch of death row criminals who must work at a kindergarten to protect powerful people's kids. Dogsred is about a former figure skater who quit and started playing hockey in Hokkaido. The Days of Diamond is about a kid whose natural skills create a gap between him and his peers in any sport, and his path in baseball. Catenaccio is about a guy who goes to Italy to play futebol and is going to do whatever it takes, even fouls, to win. There's some new series called "gift of poison" about painting, but I haven't really followed it, and another about a girl who has a rice cooker and makes food.
-Thursday: Rugby Rumble is Kuroko's Basket but with Rugby. Stupid strong dumbass joins a rugby club and plays against multiple teams that have the best players of the nation in them. Kaiju #8/Monster #8 starts out being about the guy who has to clean up after a kaiju attack, only he becomes one. Sachi's Records is Shin-chan if he was a girl and the fate of the world depended on her. A new one called Ghost Fixers recently started which is about ghost hunters.
-Friday: I don't really know enough about the ones that seem to be popular [Astro Baby and Shojo Null] but well, those seem to be horror stuff. 2.5 Dimensional Seduction is about a nerd who gets a girlfriend who's a cosplaying otaku who manages to look exactly like his favorite girl.
-Saturday: Existential Unplugged has Kierkegaard reincarnate in the modern day as a guitar player. Hope You're Happy, Lemon is all about body swapping between a guy and his ex-girlfriend who totally loves him. Girl Meets Rock is some weird series that's probably trying to be the next Bocchi. There's the detective Ron Kamonohashi series, but I'm not familiar with that one.
-Sunday: Centuria literally just started but it's at least an interesting one. Debby the Corsifa is about a guy who has to keep the strongest demon from Hell entertained or else the world is destroyed. The God Before Me is about shogi from the perspective of an unlucky guy doing his best. There's a new Kinnikuman series, but it's not translated regularly.

I don't know which of these may interest you, if any, but as said, these are the things I know of.
Absolutely based and possibly also red pilled. Thank you.

Honestly I could watch a show based entirely on the autistic process of cleaning up dead monsters. The twist in the end reminded me too much of that slave anime last season.

Lycoris Recoil finished up on Toonami last night. It's a decent enough show with its CGDCT antics and a few good action scenes, though I wish it was at least a little less anime. The MC has bullet immunity as comical as Wesker in Resident Evil: Afterlife, and the main villain's a cross between Shigaraki and Dabi from MHA. Plus being an A-1 show so obviously inspired by SAO Alternative means there's this niggling voice in my head telling me I shouldn't be watching this at all for risk of tainting my soul, reinforced by how random the sakuga cut placements are.

The dub really helped, though. Trish is broadening her roster as the next big omnipresence, I'm always amused anytime Sonicmega gets a role, and Jennifer Losi makes a decent case for being the next Cassandra Lee Morris.

Honestly it's a great manga. VERY action packed. And the characters are simply fantastic. It knows what it wants to be, a Kaiju story where a man gains Kaiju powers, and then becomes a all out brawl. I can't stress how fun it is. Also yeah, it seems western music has popped up in anime for a while lol.

Most of the examples mentioned (Oasis/Eden of the East, Duran Duran/Speed Grapher, boa/Lain) were licensed for the anime rather than being composed specifically for the anime (Eden and Speed Grapher's themes actually got changed for the US release because of licensing issues). Kaiju seems to be the latter.

It does seem like they are going all out for Kaiju. It airs worldwide at the same time as the Japanese release, with the dub a hour later. It does make some sense, it is the big money maker for Shonen Jump +.

Just want to say that this is still one of the best examples of American based songs bringing both that feel good/sad energy to a fantastic romance anime like Maison Ikkoku. It almost blew my mind that they were able to perfect it well enough that it made me like the anime a lot more.
