Wasn't there a biological reason for Custodes to be male? As in, the blood transfusion from their "primarch", that is part of the biochemical transformation process, can only work with males, and not females? I read about it on both 1d4 (hallowed be its name) and Lexicanum, but Lexi doesn't have this info anywhere on the custodes page and 1d4chan is sleeping on the red snow, so i guess that was a rumor after all, huh?

No, nothing was outright stated to be sex specific regarding the creation of Custodes. There is a statement in the 8th edition codex “it is known that all Custodes come from the sons of Terran nobility”.

Much like how the term ‘The Ten Thousand’ may not be an accurate number of Custodes, the same could be said of Custodes recruitment. After all, heretical elements could use that knowledge to corrupt recruits.

Honestly, I’d appreciate a retcon where they say that the Custodes kidnap potential recruits, in honor of an ancient Terran gene-warrior program known only as 117.

Minis and physical 40K books are expensive as shit, turning Warhammer into a gacha game is already entering the last circle of hell.

That leak suggested they want a MTG style business model. The closest thing in miniatures would be "Collectable Miniatures Games" like HeroClix or the old Mechwarrior clix game. Pay X dollars for 10 random figurines from random factions with 2 uncommons and 1 rare. Using a Combat Patrol as your base, of course. What if you didn't get the models you needed? Well, buy another box, or trade with your friends, or use the aftermarket. Plus if you get some really rare card... figurines, you can start up a new army!

They apparently explicitly want people buying multiple 2k point armies instead of the collectors that put together some ungodly huge single army force.

Would be insane, and would require a complete retooling of the hobby, alienating every existing player, fan, and store... But by god, it'd be profitable for GW.

It really isn't much of a loss, the honest truth is that modern 40k and AOS aren't particularly good systems, not even in comparison with GW's own Specialist games.

I'm glad GW pulled this when they did, I was seriously tempted to buy new FEC stuff.

unironically, also it doesnt even have to be millions. they had loyal paypiggy whales like me whod gladly drop hundreds of dollars on minis and even games, i was going to paypig for total warhammer 3 all the dlc and everything like i did the other two, even with middling reviews getting back to me and everything, not now. was going to get old world stuff not now. that alone is decent bit of change just from pissing off one consoomer whale.

At this point, either GW backpedals once they realize that coomers and troons (redundant I know) don't blow nowhere near as much money as their core customers, or they collapse over doubling down and alienating the latter in favor of the former.

So either way, it'll be fun to watch.

No doubt it's the start to see how far they can go. Whatever. We knew it was coming, they are a publicly traded company and whatever the new name for ESG is, all publicly traded companies are beholden to the investor moneys.

As long as I've known about this hobby, which is when a childhood friend took me to see a Games Workshop and I was appalled at the overwhelming smell of unwashed man anus and man armpit, I've known the following. It's the same pattern for every Warhammer aficionado:

1: Learn about Warhammer (Fantasy or 40k)
2: ???
3: Lose all respect for Games Workshop

Whether it was the way GW handled the fan-animation crisis, or the "Warhammer is (not) for everyone" incident, or just their plain overpricing of plastic crap (and overpricing paints to paint said plastic crap, as well as the glue, etc), it's becoming kind of a parallel with Pro Wrestling fans. Nobody in either "fandom" hates their own favorite entertainment industry more than they do.

There hasn't been a reason to give GW any money in over half a decade. Get Chinese bootlegs, learn 3d printing, buy 3d prints from friends for 1/8th the price of retail. Leave the buying of single $11 modeling knives to the trannies.

You're trying to logic this out. The problem is that logic has nothing to do with their decisions. it's ideology, and more specifically, a desire to cut off your retreat from the political sphere. They do not want you to have any institution, any group, any place where you can go and be safe from their screeching idiocy. They know this shit's not popular, they know that their shit's economic poison for anyone stupid enough to embrace it, and they know that everyone hates them.

And they love it.

In the worldview of the clowns pushing this, they view you, by virtue of simply wanting to be left alone, as an enemy - an enemy for whom any means is fair, and any damage they can do to you is justified. If they take a franchise, they will turn it into one more platform to proselytize from, but that's not enough for them - they have to grind your face in it. They have to stick it to you, or there's no point. It's why they're perfectly content to burn franchises to the ground - better that they die with no one to mourn the loss than for anyone who even tangentially disagrees with them to have it.

1. The lore has never actually stated that Custodes are exclusively male, they have always had a mysterious different process for creating them that is not the same as making Astartes. This is a bit out of left field but considering only a few Custodes have ever shown their face canonically its not that crazy.

2. A "good chunk" is not freaking out. It's not even a whole lot. The grand majority of the community just doesnt care. This entire thing is astroturfed by attention whores like Arch and the Outer Circle and their nuthuggers.

Games Workshop went out of their way to double down on the male exclusivity of Astartes in the latest Horus Heresy book stating specifically female marines were impossible. Just a few months ago these same attention whores were parading this doubling down as a great victory against "woke". This forced woke-outrage shit is just absolutely cringeworthy to most of us who actually play and own models. I don't know a single person who actually owns models who cares, it's just ranging from indifference to excitement.
