This is mainly from the perspective of the small government US style right winger. Most other nations are fine with government authority. That said of this list, as off our modern zeitgeist (that leftists dominate) only Lincoln, maybe FDR too but not Wilson, would be celebrated. Assessment of a former US President is primarily focused on their policy and stances towards non Whites with Africans at the top then followed by natives then the rest.I always find it interesting how some of the most celebrated US Presidents are actually the worse when just looking at abuse of power and expansion of the government. Lincoln got to use the Civil War to massively expand the Federal Government back in the 1860s, but even then it wasn't like you'd meet a fed that often and his policies were largely benign compared to the other ones.
Wilson created the Alien and Sedition Act, dragged us into WW1 to bail out the US financial elite funding the Entente, established the Federal Reserve, and decided it was America's destiny to regime change and nation build.
Then you have that devil that is FDR who pretty much single-handedly created the bloated abomination that is the modern Federal Government.
To think there was a time in American history where you were lucky if you dealt with government employees more than a few times a year. Now you can't do anything without going through all this bloat.
