In my experience, Karens can't tell Warhammer from World of Warcraft. Most of the screeching and "own le CHUDS" shit has been from men or trannies (men) who are more likely to pay attention to tabletop stuff.

They got new lore and books in the past few years but a big chunk of the fanbase doesn't give a shit because they are not space marines and therefore not part of the big stuff. Btw it was revealed in a 2019 short story that the sisters keep a clean record by having another sister take over the identity of any fallen sister for the rest of her life. Release a bundled kit of paints, supplies, etc with Tyranids (big space insects who want to eat everyone, a lot of women in the hobby gravitate towards them) or something. Put some friendly looking guy or girl in front of a camera to paint the Tyranids in pretty colors or make crystalline space elf dioramas.

A big thing is still the cost. It doesn't make sense to buy these expensive minis to only paint and not play them. If these women just wanted to paint stuff, most would go for dnd and gunpla, historical minis, or even kitbash from the ground up.

I'm not bringing up female factions saying there's enough women in 40k. Literally almost every faction has women in their ranks and more of them would be appreciated. As for the second part, it makes perfect sense. A lot of women get into the painting part, love the lore and books, but generally care less about the actual game itself. Not saying "all women into 40k don't actually play the game", but how many women are going to be interested in tourneys compared to men?

Additionally, someone into D&D (something with wider appeal) can just buy dice, pirate the rules, and then play with their friends who they know personally. The cost investment and more niche appeal of 40k may keep those friends out, which is not an not an indictment of the game. Just how it is. So either you have to try get your friends into the game (which may or may not work) or go play with strangers who you can't vouch for. Or you challenge yourself to make the most elaborate diorama you can because painting and crafting fun.

Going "hurrrr Custodes always had women there" does absolutely fuck all for women, who additionally tend to pick other armies that aren't Custodes.
