i say this as someone who was a teenager during this time, as someone who was on the internet at this time and even thought pedo bear is funny, and someone who knows that teens will do stupid shit they're not supposed to, that yes indeed this is more common than you think it is. i knew a girl who unironically loved boku no pico and that's how i learned what a fujoshi was.

I think Chuggaa was the first YouTube channel I ever subscribed to, I stumbled upon his camcord videos of his imported copy of the Japanese version of Pokemon Platinum back in 2008 when I was just a retarded kid. Now that I'm a retarded adult I just can't shake the feeling that someone from the era of the Internet that Chuggaa comes from really doesn't belong in the hyper-politicized and intensely maladjusted Internet of today. What used to be a space for enthusiasts has run rampant with grifters and attention whores that put the reply girls of the aughts to shame. I hope he rediscovers his passion and continues making videos because I think anything less then that would be giving the mentally ill mob exactly what they want, but I fully understand why he wouldn't want to come back.
