The games were made in the 90’s where Russia stopped being 9000 IQ chess masters and a country that destroyed itself due to trying to compete with the US when it lagged behind in more and more fields. China was the antagonist because they were a more clear idea of the East, iirc.

In the lore, Russia basically can’t compete like in real life and becomes a vassal state to China.

Normie influx? Enshittification? I worry I’m a part of it, frankly. I have interests I could ramble on about autistically, and if a company came along to make more of what I like but watered-down and tweaked, I’d probably be pretty pissed off.

The thing with Fallout, though, is that I only played a little of NV and have about 100 hours in F4. I liked the show for what it was, but I’m far from a turbo-sperg about the franchise, and I assume most viewers who rate it positively aren’t either.

So does a company continue to cater to the small group that argues on message boards for hours about the game’s timelines and builds their own Pip-Boys, or do they change things up enough so that the product/franchise appeals to newbies who won’t have to navigate a book of prior lore thicker than the bible?

Okay I can understand why someone might enjoy the show…but what the Hell is up with all these normies and YouTubers completely soyjacking to it like it’s our generation’s The Sopranos?

I think there’s also a possibility that Amazon is deleting negative reviews of the show, like what the moderators of r/NewVegas did with their subreddit when there were too many posts complaining about the show, only to resurrect a new subreddit that became filled with nothing but glowing reviews.

The bad guys in Fallout had always been the people in charge of the US. It was not remotely sublte. And started literally from Fallout 1's opening movie. Long before you had your chance to blow up the President of the United States or anything.

And Bond villain-tier evil plans had shaped the main plots of the first two games. Fallout, as, again, the very opening of the very first game informed the audience, always mixed some degree of seriousness with dark and absurdist humor and satire.

What irks me of what I've seen about these series so far, besides the fact that it just doesn't look good, is the fact that it is too busy with the usual goyim humiliation routine to retain even a shade of satire. It only takes shots at acceptable, thrice-vetoed targets. The black protag being a comical dumbfuck is no exception, as we've seen before, being male can trump being black, and so they are allowed to be comical retards,

Watched Fallout.

It wasn't a full on 5 alarm dumpster fire but it was heavily dependent on key-jangling at the viewer (OMG, you like *REFERENCE* don't you?) and not noticing the lack of character development.

The only characters who undergo any sort of significant development are Cooper (I refuse to call him THE GHOUL) and Norm, primarily because Goggins is a good enough actor to make it work, and Norm just kind of lucked into it.

Lucy is almost endearing. She's not a girlboss (there are a couple of those in this show) or a STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER; she is skilled, but naive to the harshness of the Wasteland, and not everything goes her way or how she wants it to go.

Maximus, by contrast is...an incompetent dweeb. Full stop. Yet, he does have a story 'arc' in a sense in that he thinks he wants things (Knighthood, glory, respect) and when he gets them realizes that they aren't really what he wants (the girl. He wants the girl).

Next on the plate: Vault-Tec as the masterminds of the destroying the world in the name of CAPITALISM. Hollywood would sooner say the word 'nigger' than 'China' and in anything less than fawning praise (communist is a word for people who aren't insane, according to a character in the show).

Following that line, it is passing curious that the show would choose to make not one, but two black women the antagonists of the show (Vault-Tec executives).

Now for the big problem: Shady Sands in 2277 and the 'fall' of the NCR. Problem with that date is that something else kind of important was going on that year (Battle of Hoover Dam 1). Now, Bethesda simps have being doing their best mental gymnastics to try and vindicate the show and Todd Howard. New Vegas makes no sense if Shady Sands went boom in 2277. NCR won Hoover Dam 1. If Shady Sands popped off there would be no political justification whatsoever to maintain an NCR presence 145 outside of NCR territory with their capitol in ruins. If the NCR simply ceased to exist after Hoover Dam, or was even critically wounded, Caesar wouldn't have spent four years massing on Fortification Hill; the Legion would have rocked down I-40 from Arizona or I-70 from Colorado, crucifying anyone unlucky enough to be in the way, smashed whatever was left of the NCR and worried about Mr. House and New Vegas later.

All in all, mildly palatable slop, but still slop crafted for people who think Fallout 4 was the best in the series.

Communism vs Capitalism: The "communist" woman isn't a communist, she says so point plank. She says the people in charge of Vault-Tec are insane, and they are. Vault-Tec has always been insane, and both in real life and in the games any enemies of the government were "communists" whether they were communists or not. Also, the vaults we see are run like communes. The subtle satire that the people in this thread are claiming is missing from the show is just too subtle, I guess?

Race: Most of the survivors are from around Shady Sands, which was explicitly populated by an explicitly mixed race vault as an experiment, there should canonically be mostly non-whites.
Every black person is either retarded or evil.

Vault-Tec dropping bombs: They say they are going to drop the bomb, but if they actually did House and Coop's wife would have known when the bombs were going to drop, and they didn't. House had to do his calculations to determine the real timing of the bomb and even then they dropped early, and the wife wouldn't have let her kid get bombed if she knew. If anything, the show reaffirmed that the bombs were not dropped by Vault-tec, or even the Enclave (since presumably that's who the shadowy figure in the meeting was). The show pretty much confirmed that it was the Chinese.

And the big one: The chalkboard does not say that shady sands was bombed in 2277. There's a big fucking arrow. The show takes place in 2296 and Maximus and Lucy were both in Shady Sands as children. If Maximus and Lucy are around 19-20 years old (military age and marriage age), that means they were born around 2277, and Shady Sands was bombed around 2283. New Vegas takes place in 2281. The producers had to confirm that the nuke went off shortly after New Vegas because so many people don't know what a fucking arrow means.
