I think the reason it seems like people are whiteknighting Matt here is because Kailyn just looks shittier in comparison to him. That's not to say that Matt is a saint, like @Fapcop said, but prior to him even dating Kailyn, the guy was able to hold down a job, and was probably relatively normal... well, for him, anyway.
Whereas Kailyn has very few redeeming qualities, if any.

I agree, I don't think we're ever going to truly know what went down that night. I think the "rapist" stuff came from GG/YTT as they're known to blow things way out of proportion for dramatic effect. Something sketchy probably did go down but I think it's just too big of a stretch to assume a rape happened given the small amount of info we have.

Like @Barbarella and @Lurker said, I feel like a lot of the white knighting is because Matt drove and had a job in the past where Kailyn doesn't/can't drive or work. I know I've said that I think Matt really loves Gracie, but I admit that just loving the kid doesn't guarantee you'll be a fit parent. Like I said in a previous post, I'd be down for Matt to have custody just because his parents seem a lot more normal than the Wilchers, especially if Gracie ends up inheriting Matt's mental illness.

I don't think Matt graduated high school. Maybe he had a GED, though? He might've worked as a patient transporter or something like that in a hospital, they often wear scrubs. I also knew a guy without a diploma or a GED who was a transporter, but he had connections, too. Interesting find. Weird to think how someone like Kai managed to ruin his life.
