So is the show set in Russia or it's because the main character is called Yuri?
For 1st question, the setting is placed in multiple areas, usually for ice skate competitions.

As for the 2nd question about Yuri, well, this is where things get autistic.
You see, two characters in this anime share the name Yuri, such as the protagonist Yuuri.

This is the main Gay lead, who has fallen in the dumps after his loss in the skating tournament. Throughout the story, he trains with Victor Nikiforov, a former skating champion who is also Russian and gay.

He trains Yuuri and slowly falls in love with him, all so he can beat his Rival.

The Rival is straight-up named Yuri.

He's the character who beats our poor gay Japanese protagonist and hates him because the same name tells him he sucks, and over time, they become rivals to prove one of them will be the best skater in the world.

And that is why the show Yuri!!! On Ice because the show is literally about two Yuri skating on Ice.

Loved the ending theme
I will have to listen to that again, me and my friend left pretty quickly after. It was also a pretty good length for a Anime movie, 110 minutes, so just shy of two hours. It felt like everyone got a chance to shine really.

Almost finishing the manga adaptation of fate/EXTRA,crazy it took almost 12 years to finish the fan translations of a 6 volume manga.

Ok this episode of Kaiju no 8 was hilarious. I was not expecting him to pee that way

I really don't understand people's reverence for the Greatest Robot in the World arc of Astro Boy. To me it's one of the weaker Astro Boy chapters -- it seems like a generic battle shounen arc, but maybe I've just answered my own question.

I hope every fujoshi cried bitter tears of blood over this.

Probably because Yuri!!! On Ice didn't make MAPPA money lol.

I'm trying to think when the last time an anime was outright canceled due to production issues (iirc the Yuri on ice movie was first announced almost 7 years ago and had a release date of around 2018-2019, but then got pushed back to 2020, then radio silence until this cancelation announcement)
I vaguely recall hearing about an outlaw star sequel that got abandoned from 20 years ago
Kon had some projects like dream machine but that got shelved because of his death and no director can mimic his style
Sunrise had an sci fi original called mirai arise that was supposed to air in 2016
Gianax had a few things in the works but ever since Anno left and took half the noteworthy staff and Imaishi the other half, they have done almost nothing in almost a decade

I do also recall some isekai anime that got cancelled before it aired because of some comments the author made on twitter about gooks and chinks, but this was back in 2017-2018, so it wasn't the canary in the coal mine of the death of anime as some threads on /a/ where doomsaying

In 2005, plans for a Nadesico sequel were scrapped.

One of the things I find interesting is the usage of real photos to use as background, I never saw him use it before. No filters, just straight up photos.

I did not expect it to go full literal repitilian, quite funny to see it go full conspiracy. Fun manga even more as a sci fi romance one

Here are some other cancelled anime:
Saint of Braves Baan Gaan -- cancelled due to the poor performance of Brave toys. Reworked into Brave Saga and GEAR Fighter Dendoh.
Photogrizer -- a ninth Brave series, cancelled for the same reason as Baan Gaan. Will appear in the Sworgrader manga.
Kanzen Shouri Daiteioh -- a fourth Eldran series that would have tied together the previous three shows. A pilot and a manga were made.
Sunrise Zeorymer sequel -- would have been made in the late 90s; was reworked into the Zeorymer Omega manga.
Dancouga Burn -- the intended second anime in Ashi Pro's intended mecha reboot series (the first of which was VS Knight Lamune) to capitalize on SRW; a manga was made, however.
Goshogun remake -- the third anime intended for Ashi Pro's mecha reboot series.
Dendoh sequel -- would have featured a new cast of children fighting plant monsters led by a space pirate, as well as new GEARs. Hokuto, Ginga, and Eris would have been all grown up, and Alktos would have become an ally of the Earth similar to Macross's human/Zentradi alliance. Cancelled due to the first show's poor toy sales, but Vega's planned character design was used in My-Hime (fun fact: My-Hime was inspired by Dendoh's C-DRiVE idol group).
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2041 -- would have been funded by ADV Films, but was cancelled because the staff of 2040 were too busy. It is speculated that ADV imported Parasite Dolls (which was planned to be a full TV show but only had two episodes finished, likely due to the poor performance of AD Police) and commissioned a third episode to complete the OVA.
Justeen -- a planned AIC mecha franchise that would have featured famous plamo mecha. The first episode was released as an Oreimo tie-in, but no further episodes were made.
Mahoroba -- a movie adaptation of a Leiji Matsumoto manga. There was another cancelled Leiji Matsumoto anime that would have featured a transforming Yamato, but only the gacha game was made.

Oh that reminds me, did the english dub of Interspecies Reviewers ever get completed? I recall Funimation cancelled it once they actually paid attention to what it was.

Recently uploaded, a 1963 Toei Animation production, The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon. Sony currently has the rights to this movie and its dub, apparently, since Throwback Toons is a Sony-run YouTube channel. It's a very influential film for animators all around, and the modernist art design is like little else in animation.
