To make matters worse, Hirsi also lost access to the dining hall as a result of her suspension, where she had been getting the majority of her meals. She said she appealed to the administration for help but was ultimately left without institutional support.

“I sent them an email like, ‘Hey, I rely on campus for my meals, I rely on my dining plan,’ and they were like, Oh, you can come pick up a prepackaged bag of food, a full 48 hours after I was suspended. There was no food support, no nothing,” she said.

By "professional credentials", do you mean a certificate from a higher learning institute to prove a person has reached some minimum standard? Or do you mean the knowledge one acquires through self-study, which doesn't come with an institutionally approved seal of authenticity, but is no less valuable inherently?

Because the video goes quite in-depth comparing the two. But his point is that a self-taught autodidact can often outsmart the pretentious academic, and that there are indeed many advantages to being educated this way.

I don't know the character you and he are referring to, but a cursory Google search tells me she is the former - a self-taught expert who's always reading books. (The modern day equivalent of this is someone who learns from the wealth of information that can be found online from less accredited sources.) So don't worry about the Patchouli slander. The video's on your side.

But there was little internet, or no internet to speak off. so you could not escape it at all for the most part.

Its a big reason underground niches (heavy metal, punk, video games, dnd, warhammer etc) came about. Little surprise most of them were entirely made and used by white men, it was a refuge.

Now there is little escape if you plan to stay connected to the world. The other option is strike out on your own, but that has some very heavy costs and little in the way of a guide to not fuck your life up entirely.
