I'm sure the same company that made the "code" handkerchiefs for gay men back in the 80s also put out an ad aimed at lesbians, but who knows how many actually bought into it. From what I know of lesbians, I can't imagine it was very many. They have their problems, no doubt, but they're not universally into things like pooping on each other. I reckon this to be hopeful advertisement by a handkerchief company, not an example of what those carpet munchers are really into.
The handkerchief thing originated from frontier towns and gold rushes.
Basically these towns commonly had far more men than women, so at social dances the men wore a handkerchief in their left back pocket to indicate that they were willing to dance as the following partner.
Normally the following partner would be the woman.
Presumably the gays adopted this as a subtle code for those “in the know”.
As far as I heard, it’s never been a lesbian thing, but maybe it’s crossed over into fetish circles, hence the women specific acts.
