The studies that give them a big boost tend to be low sample-size, focus on children for some reason, and also tend to focus on private schools. The article you linked leans pretty heavily on Backman and Levinson which have the aforementioned problems. It also tries to make the circular claim that because they have historically been overrepresented they must be more intelligent, so I call it BS.

Its just a smoke screen (one of the few remaining) to cover for their rampant nepotism.

He's an excellent example of the power of branding. Nothing he does is very good, not his music, his clothes, his shoes, nothing. But he's a popular brand regardless. And he's literally insane to a degree that is remarkable even among the crazies who make up his celebrity peers who themselves merely brand names and nothing else. Even Britney Spears couldn't compete with him on crazy. Kanye's mask stuff is even worse than when Michael Jackson did it, as at least Jackson had a reason to hide his face. With Kanye, its just high-grade mental illness.

It's weird to see so much praise online for his albums and artistry and then when I go listen to them they sounds like run of the mill Nigger music. Sure his beats are slightly more interesting than most but his rapping and lyrics consistently ruin the final product. Kanye West and Taylor Swift both represent the Power of the Brand has for gilding violent mediocrity and tricking people into believing in fools gold.
