My impression of this latest show was a little different. For most shows in the last couple of months he seemed intoxicated and you could kind of see how that would lead him to latch on to some word or idea that came up, run with it for far too long, and take it into odd directions. This stream is different because he's sober-ish and his material isn't really derived from the show subject or things Kurt was saying. It also isn't just random sexual references and Stephen Hawking. It's less manic, less erratic, and he actually switches it off for fairly long stretches to discuss legal matters.

He isn't just flailing, he thinks this is top shelf material. He might actually have sat down and prepared some of this stuff.

What I find interesting is how this propensity to never admit fault in any respect infects his "humor." Nick constitutionally cannot let a bad joke die and move on, he has to double, triple, and quadruple down on the failed zinger. He seems to be under the impression that leaning hard as fuck into a bad joke will convert a failed joke into a successful one.

Inability to back down or critically reassess beliefs I believe is one of the most important characteristics that distinguish a cow from a regular person, but I've never seen it manifest so powerfully in a stand up routine.
