If an autist never receives proper help, he or she will appear far worse. When I say apparently severe, I'm not talking about vegetables, I'm talking about kids who cannot speak intelligibly because they never received any speech therapy; kids who cannot control their emotions or are somewhat intellectually stunted. Their symptoms make them look worse than they really are. They're not completely retarded, they just need more help than the average kid to be as functional as they can be.
