It is getting far harder for even self hosted users to actually host and sell dubious content. Outside of the fact that you still have to find a hosting service and payment processor that'll actually still not fuck you over, you need to advertise the site in some way to the audience, and that's gonna be mainstream social media. Which are all more or less expanding their terms of service to punish users for off-site activity. Even if you post stuff thats A-OK for twitter on twitter, but also link to your website where you host stuff twitter doesn't like, they'll just use that to ban you. And if they try to overlook it, payment processors notice and make a fuss until they stop looking the other way.
Not that I want to defend his shit, but its becoming increasingly impossible to actually be independent on the internet - Primary services are becoming draconian at the same time that users are becoming incapable of functioning outside the primary service. At this point, a lot of people aren't even aware that alternatives to google exist, that is just the internet to them. It sounds wild, but just think back to all the people discovering that ad-blockers exist only when youtube started stirring shit and people talked about them.

Not really, the web is so increasingly degenerate these days that his stuff probably seen as just more edgy if anything. Hell his start was so long ago that there's probably younger adults reminiscing about how Shad was their first taste of edgy content online.

That isn't his site. Looks like someone just re-uploaded all his shit. He had Shadbase.com / Shagbase.com. The former was for stuff like comics, and Shagbase was for more niche nasty shit (literally.) Then he merged them and made Shagbase redirect to Shadbase.

Nah, I doubt it. All or most of his archive is backed up on exhentai so he wouldn't need to really work to collect it and he's got a way better grasp of English than that blurb near the top implies.

It was my understanding that he never actually went to prison. That we was being evaluated at some mental health facility. Are there new records that change that?

You're right that he never went to prison. Below are the records from the LA Court website. From what I can tell (lawbros, copbros, etcbros feel free to correct) he had his first 'hearing' on 28/10/21 where the judge would have said "go check if he's schizo" and held him in jail for 2 weeks before Mick (probably) paid his bail on 15/11/21. And since then it looks like it was a bunch of non-appearances by him and further proceedings. We'll probably never get a good resolution but maybe hopefully he'll go schizo and attack someone else and get a couple years.
