There are thousands upon thousands of mediocre comics, books, movies, TV shows, etc., out there. Nobody here is focusing on any of them, because they're unremarkable. If EJ's books are mediocre, that's average and unremarkable given that most other things also are.

He's up to 16th place now (2nd to last) but only because so many other cars are out. With another wreck we might have a Top 15!

He was 8 laps behind when the race finished, so I guess he was just past the finish line when the leader finished. The little race champion made the TV broadcast because around lap 5, he cock-blocked the race leader (swerved in front of him as he was trying to pass while jockeying with the second-place car), nearly causing him to rear-end the Frogmobile, thus letting the second-place driver shoot into first.

Also, I clicked on his Wikipedia entry while checking the results, and this is the intro to his page:

He was down 3 laps by about Lap 20 so it seems the strategy was just to drive slow, not be competitive at all and hope 2/3 of the field wrecks out to "finish" in the top half. It worked. We'll have to wait for the official results to see if he was behind by half an hour but FUCK IT TOP 15 BABY LETS GOOOOOO! Timacast car up next! PROFESSIONAL RACECAR DRIVER GO VROOM VROOM!

All in all it was a pretty good race for the tens of people in attendance. There might've been more people at Ethan Ralph's indy rasslin' event.
