A serious question although I'm not sure if this is the right thread for it, has anyone read EVS' Cyberfrog and if so, are they way better than the crap that Marvel and DC are currently producing?

The problem with Ethan is that he sits on his fat ass for hours at a time streaming on his show and other shows, while still taking money from people who get their books God knows when. Then he has the temerity to bitch about people who fulfill their campaigns in a timely manner and making him look like an incompetent jackass.

I wonder how many bridges does he need to burn though before people realized they should stop giving this big baby their money. If you can't ship on time and you prefer doing YT videos then maybe you should just stick to being a content creator instead, just saying.

I've read the first 2 CyberFrog books (the only ones published so far, excepting the reprint collection from the 90's, "Warts & All" - which I also have).
Yes, IMHO, they are better than what DC and Marvel are currently producing. But, that is a VERY low bar. Seriously, I did enjoy them and will probably get CyberFrog 3 (whenever it may come out...).
Yes, EVS needs to release them in a speedier fashion - but I have resigned myself to Perpetual Latenesses.

The 90s ones are available online on the usual sites, so you can go see for yourself. But the newer ones- I have read Bloodhoney -the story sucks for something you only get a chapter of every few years. The art might be above average vs an average comic but it takes him longer than things that are fully painted. I don't like the coloring style either it makes the art worse than it was in b&w. If it was coming out monthly I would have a better opinion of it, that it was mid. It's not as good as the best of what Marvel/DC produces.

Pretty much. If I’m remembering it correctly, Doug said that the current EWJ rights holders allowed him to make the comics/graphic novels under the condition that he not cause any controversy or say/do anything egregiously offensive: Doug himself mentioned this around when the first KS happened.

I can only imagine he barely towed the line but couldn’t help himself and ultimately decided being able to politically sperg out and hawk ultimately worthless NFTs was more worth it than having a degree of creative control over something he was the creator of; an opportunity that other people who sold away rights to certain franchises would have killed for (like Denis Dyack and Legacy of Kain; now he’s left trying to coast off of nostalgia with a vaporware game that not even /v/ wants and mocks often).

I can find anatomical mistakes in Ethan's work quite frequently.
Ethan's proportions and compositions are usually pretty good but not as good as McFarlane's.

Now, in terms of style, we can argue about it. In my opinion, Ethan's drawings are often filled with an overabundance of greebles, too much small detail, and too many little scribbles. It often ends up becoming just noise. He is also heavily influenced by McFarlane.

Ethan's fundamentals are worse than TenNapel's.

I've read Cyberfrog Bloodhoney. The writing is incredibly average. It's like something from a B movie. Not terrible, not at all remarkable.

That's why EVS trashing EJ's books is going to blow up in his face, because if he ever actually publishes another one of his books, it's going to be open season on criticism. EVS is in no position to judge other people's writing.

Thanks for the replies, it's still a shame that Marvel/DC has become unbearable to me at this point. The only point I cared even a bit about DC a few years ago was that Batman Death Metal with scythe figure that I got just because it would look cool on my shelf.

Hey, I like greebles. My favorite artist is Bernie Wrightson. Like I said, your mileage may vary. A lot of people just adore McFarland. I'm definitely not one of them.
