"In Canada, psychotherapists are not authorized to prescribe medication. Only medical doctors, including psychiatrists, are authorized to prescribe medication"
In Canada (and the U.S.) nurse practitioners can also prescribe medications. There are even clinics in the U.S. that are totally run by NPs, no doctors on staff. I don't know if there are clinics run solely by NPs in Canada, or if there's less wait time to see an NP than an MD. But knowing Chantal, I doubt if she has a prescription from any medical professional, neither a doctor or NP.
Nurse Practitioners (NPs), also known as Registered Nurses in the extended class, are registered nurses who have met additional education, experience and exam requirements set by the College. They are authorized to diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medication and other treatment.

Lazy PL: Two years ago, I was VERY lucky enough to finally get an NP during this crazy, oversaturated, critical time, when one out of five Canadians are unable to get a health -care practitioner. Must have been this warm, nonjudgmental, winning personality of mine.
NPs can do almost everything a doc can do, from administering tests to giving scripts and referrals to...you name it, really. They are medical practitioners minus the bigger salary, but I hear this might be changing.
...but it still takes years to get one. Chantal has no GP, no NP, no personal health-care practitioner, no counsellor, no therapist, no psychiatrist, nothing. Trust me. Even walk-in clinics in many parts of my country,--Justinstan--don't actually accept walk-ins anymore: you must book an appointment in advance, try the lineups at urgent care clinics, or sit in a hellish ER for many, many hours among, uh, questionable folks who need a lot more than emergency care.
Chantal never saw a soul here in Cuckanada. She has nobody, nobody monitoring her physical and mental wellness at all, except whomever she paid for in Kuwait to tell her she is 350 lbs and can easily adapt to a palmful of rice per meal.
