I AM not at home, but I'll give a brief synopsis of the black-and-white movie Pi that came out about 20 years ago (which I haven't seen in maybe 3 years). I first saw it in the theater when it came out. I think I remember there was no one else in the theater. I related to it right away and have three quotes of it hanging up in my library over my desk computer...

There's this non-practicing Jew in NY who is a cutting-edge mathematician and computer guy who is aware that everything in Nature is mathematical patterns - "Everything can be expressed mathematically." He's an eccentric loner with a hot-looking neighbor with BIG eyes (who sometimes brings him food when she's not bonking her boyfriend). The mathematician is looking for a grand all-encompassing equation that acts like a 'theory of everything'.

He starts making predictions in the stock market that come true. That attracts the attention of some rich $tock market guys, but he doesn't care about the money. He also attracts the attention of an Orthodox Jewish guy who's into Kaballa and Hebrew gematria. "You know the Torah is encoded mathematically? Every Hebrew letter is a number and there are patterns and connections." The genius guy isn't interested in G-D and religion74.

Throughout the movie, the guy has troubles with headaches and bleeding some. The soundtrack is all loud hard-rock techno that is the worst if you're trying to fall asleep! (I sleep with the TV or DVDs on. The original The Day The Earth Stood Still has the best soundtrack to fall asleep and stay asleep to.)
