Sounds like the ideal place for r/fuckcars. A beautiful Caribbean island that is small enough to be entirely bikeable. A rich ethnic culture full of diversity. Anti-imperialism roots. It is truly their version of paradise. And to top it all off, they can get in on the ground floor of whatever new government ends up taking over and create a strong urbanist lobby to ensure that all future city planning is entirely car free and walkable
 
Well half those governments are old commie projects gone wrong. You can easily blame the fact they have no infrastructure and shit training on a shitty leftist system built on central planning- like fuckcars wants.
Of course a lot of that is shitty road infrastructure and the "well I guess blacks just can't drive" problem could be discarded. The problem is that fuckcars sees working stoplights, clear sightlines on wide freeways, and all the stuff that makes American highway/road infrastructure top-tier is the problem rather than the solution.
 
The funny thing is that they've painted themselves into a corner with that. They blame highway and road infrastructure for problems in America, yet in Africa the infrastructure is so much worse (in third world countries, a paved road with two lanes in each direction is considered good stuff), it forces the racial element.

Wearing headphones is probably the worst thing these autistics can do when walking on the sidewalk. They won’t be paying attention and through their own ignorance are more likely to get hit by a car (which they will then blame on the drivers)

Also in urban areas with niggers them not having their head on a swivel will make them easy targets for Niggers to mug.

Imagine being able to sit on your front porch on a warm evening, listening to the sound of birdsong. Imagine being able to see bright stars because there is no light pollution. Imagine waving at your neighbors as you pass each other on the road, and knowing them all by name. Most everyone is polite and would help you out. In the summer, you can faintly hear all the neighborhood kids laughing and playing in their yards despite their distance from you because there is far less ambient car noise to drown out their joy. You can gather wildflowers for pressing, tend to a garden, and watch for local birds to land in your trees.

Wait no you can’t do any of that. You will live in the pod. You will eat the bugs. You will own nothing and you will be happy. Fuck you.

What MATI was this? My car was hit by a logging truck so things have been a little crazy.
 
Crossposting from the A&N article about St. George, Louisiana I discussed why Baton Rouge was so pissed.

Basically, St. George was never part of Baton Rouge (no voting, less services) but Baton Rouge enjoyed a lot of tax benefits from the area while refusing to incorporate them because they'd have to provide services. So in essence it makes Baton Rouge's opposition pragmatic but breaks claims that liberals make, including one pertinent to this thread: it's yet another example of "who subsidizes who". Under conventional "urbanist" logic Baton Rouge should greatly benefit by not having to worry about St. George's sprawl by having them permanently fuck off and not be the "city"'s problem, but obviously that's not what happening here.

Plus: resorts. Even if the outside has to make some concessions to the carbrains for things like trucks to haul goods, the tourist resorts can be walkable utopias of carlessness.

My community is having a Fuck Cars moment with a certain city project that's well underway. It's interesting to watch on the community Facebook page a solo fuckcars asshole castigate old ladies who were disappointed that there'd be no car access for this gigantic project that will end up only serving meth heads in getting from the shit side of town to my side of town.
He's using jargon that goes over everyone's head. It'd be funny if I didn't want to curb stomp his smug face so badly.

"No Deb, this project isn't for your car. Deal with it"

One person who thinks the project is great otherwise even told the guy he was being weird and rude to people. I have no idea how people like this have such an outsized influence on policy.

Same as everything else, through the capture of the university system. These plans are drawn up by “urban planners”, and their curriculum is heavily anti-car and anti-house. Check out /r/urbanplanning for examples on what these people believe; the subreddit is a more “moderate” version of /r/fuckcars because its members actually leave the basement and have learned that revealing their power levels disrupts their plans.

Urban planning is also a completely unnecessary profession. All work necessary to design a city is done by actual engineers, not ideologues poorly playing Cities Skylines in the real world.

My city’s master plan looks like something you’d find on /r/fuckcars despite it having an incredibly conservative population who loves their motor vehicles and single family houses. Luckily, our city council and mayor are sane people who ignore the planners, but all it takes is one bad election and the disastrous (and pre-approved) plan will be implemented.

Like I said in a post a few pages ago, urbanism is incredibly unpopular in the real world and they can only pretend to have support by lying about what they plan to build, tax, and regulate.

What's hilarious about it is the examples they point to of "planned/designed" cities are examples of where the vast majority of the "planning" was someone drawing lines on a map, often from miles away without even looking at the ground involved.

I also get ass-blasted hilarious over the fact that the shit they argue against (mandatory parking minimums, zoning, etc) were all enacted by planners to solve problems. It's all so tiresome, but I wish them one million years of rule in California, just stay the fuck away from normal places.

Any victory "urban planners" can claim is despite them - not because of them.
