Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
My last run, I picked up a Masterball on floors 10-20. I was worried about losing the thing but I did find that Tinkaton to use it on. I also got my first shiny Pokemon. It was a Combee... a male... Combee.... :lossmanjack:
I think you can catch a female Combee and that unlocks a shiny female? Worth a shot.

Also, in case you didn’t know, three random starters every day have a purple frame around them on the starter select screen, meaning they have Pokerus, and every 10th wave it has a chance of spreading to the rest of your team. A free 1.5x EXP boost for the entire run is huge.

Currently in the early 150s. The rival fight was way harder than the gym.

Edit: Lost on 195 with her on her final mon and only a sliver of hp remaining. Unlocked my favorite mon line of all time for starters though at least. Absolutely fucking GOT her op legendary with him.

I haven't experienced the bad luck you've described.
I guess I'm just fuckin' cursed or something. The title screen even claims Risk of Rain 2 influence but I've only ever gotten actual passive items like 3 times, ever. There's definitely potential for crazy power cascading but I think you have to not be the Fallout 2 Pariah Dog like I am with -10 luck.

Shiny number 2.

Legendary Egg.png
Also, a Legendary egg. I doubt it'll be Shiny but stranger things have happened. All I know is, a Legendary starter Pokemon can be a game changer. (I did research on Shiny Pokemon in this game. For those that don't know, they increase your luck on your runs. That's why I'm dumping all my tickets in the Shiny gatcha.)

Edit:
Zacian.png
Yeah, I'd say that's pretty good. Also, Bitter Blade egg move because Zacian needed lifesteal. :story:

Edit 2:

I was no the only one who planned on demaking SV.
From what I see, th is not a hack, but homebrew... probably made in GB Studio.
They also said that what you see is what you get. They are not going to make anything more than this effective demo.

You're not the only one. Furthest I've ever gotten was past stage 20. The rival character kicked my ass with her Pidgeotto, meanwhile none of my starters had evolved by that point.

My last playthrough i kept encountering Paldean Blaze Tauros whom seem to just crush my team with Tackle + Work Up. Couldn't get any other items besides potions to make sure my team wouldn't die so quickly.

I'd really appreciate it if the developers of this "game" kept their in-game-mechanic sperging to a minimum or had an option to skip the tutorials. I get that most people are extremely fucking retarded these days given why this site exists in the first place.

However, Its really fucking obvious that defeating pokemon or trainers will drop random items and money and they shouldn't be continuing to point this shit out 5 battles in and no fucking shit a pokemon's current status is persistent. Its the same way in the main games too until you reach a pokemon center or heal with items. Its also hella gay that the AI gets to cheat and always go twice in a row even when your pokemon has double their speed stat, no speed debuffs, and they aren't using priority moves like quick attack.

If they must do that kind of sperging, at least do it on something not blatantly obvious, like the non descriptive symbols for physical/non-physical moves and the difference between them. Or Priority moves. Because that actually matters in battles.

This was correct. I caught a Vespequin and it allows me to now use shiny female Combees if I should so choose.

A couple of wild shiny Pokemon:

I hatched this out of an Epic (not Legendary) Egg:

I wasn't in a position to try and catch him:

Standard mode complete!

And... a Manaphy Egg?? That doesn't come out of a Legendary or... Epic Egg? (There wasn't even a Manaphy in it. It was a Phione.)

Its not a fun game at all.

Most of the time on the lower levels the enemies will just 2 shot your pokemon with quick attack even when they are around level 12 fighting a level 8 and normal moves aren't effective against them with a high defense stat. Type advantages don't seem to matter and a ghost type is a REQUIREMENT to get past the first 20 rounds because of how often the AI will blatantly cheat. Though even if I somehow got my hands on a ghost pokemon, im sure the game would cheat and make it so normal type moves can hit a gastly anyway while of course only making that nullified type resistance work for the ai. Fuck that noise. I'd rather just cheat in kind.

Got a run to around 120~ish and have come to the realization that an extra Super EXP Charm and/or EXP All here or there is so insanely powerful that it took me from losing consistently at round ~30 to 100+. The luck/skill ratio in this game is absolutely fucked and I think with some more balancing it could be really, really good, but as it is you're basically relying entirely on luck with items or the legendary egg gatcha to get anywhere. The game just gets too hard, too fast without those factors.

That said, it's still fun in that way that even bad roguelites are, where sometimes you get that God Run and you absolutely decimate the game for a while. It needs to take more cues from its supposed inspiration Risk of Rain and make the game way more skill- and knowledge-based rather than 100% "please give me good items" but I think there's a good foundation for something truly special that will get taken down in a few weeks.

Oh, and for the love of Christ, please add a way to either skip or turn off dialogue. I don't need to see the stupid Rival's dumbass text for the 20th time, every time.

Yeah, the difficulty ramps up fast but I'm still learning some new tricks to help with future runs. For example, it was mentioned earlier in the thread that Pokemon have no limits on the amount of items they can carry. This isn't true of course as there are limits to how many of specific items they can carry but they can certainly carry a lot of them. What I recently learned was that you can move items (except vitamins) from one Pokemon to another. I also learned that wild Pokemon carry lots of items, and good ones too. For example:

Metal Coat.png
This Archaludon is carrying a Metal Coat. Metal Coats boost the damage of Steel type attacks by 20%. If I can catch this Archaludon, I can add it to my party and move that Metal Coat to my Zacian to boost Behemoth Blade's damage. Also, notice that number "1" on the lower left hand corner as well as its white color. This means that a Pokemon can carry multiple Metal Coats and not just one. I assume that the more you have, the more they stack additively.

10 Lum Berries.png
It's a little harder to see with this image but my Zacian here is holding 10 Lum Berries. The number 10 has changed from white to an orange-peach color signifying I'm holding a maximum amount of Lum Berries on this Pokemon.

With these in mind, what I figure is that it's best to work on a few Pokemon rather than an entire party of six. Maybe 5 with some luck on Exp. All drops and using that 6th slot as a revolving door to acquire items from wild Pokemon. It's worth mentioning that wild Pokemon can come carrying Lucky Eggs and Golden Lucky Eggs that boost the xp the carrying Pokemon receives by 40% and 100%. If you're having bad luck on extra charms, you may make up for it with drops from wild Pokemon.

If you haven't been practicing any of that, then I hope I've just doubled your item pools and made things easier.

I finally got my first shiny and it’s a fucking Weedle. End me.

I’m doing consistently better and completed my first daily run, but I lost to the final rival battle in classic. I had no answer to fire types and a Blaziken just nuked my team. Now I’m going through with a Groudon with great IVs except Attack which is zero so we’ll see.

I’ve never noticed any bias in favor of Ghost types or cheating AI, and I got to around 150 on my first run and only lost because I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t heal my party before a gym leader. Are you sure you’re not experiencing, dare I say it… a skill issue? :smug:

In all seriousness, it’s like most roguelikes where you get your ass handed to you in the first or second section until you learn the mechanics and which items are more important than others, then you can consistently get through the first half even with shitty luck. And get a starter with a purple frame/Pokerus if possible, it helps immensely.

(Just now read this because I’m slow and didn’t scroll up)

You do have the option to skip tutorials. Did you look at the settings?
(Also why did you feel the need to put “game” in quotation marks?)
However, Its really fucking obvious that defeating pokemon or trainers will drop random items and money and they shouldn't be continuing to point this shit out 5 battles in
They only point it out after the first battle…
and no fucking shit a pokemon's current status is persistent.
It wasn’t obvious to me. Knowing that things like stat changes and toxic spikes carry over between wild battles and only reset when entering a trainer battle, which is not how they work in the original games, makes certain moves much more valuable than usual.

That stuff has been around since gen 3/4, it’s not exactly new.
