Even though the US attempts in Ukraine are misguided and ultimately doomed to failure and I disagree with them, I'm not going to sit here and say that it isn't somewhat impressive that the US has bogged Russia down in a conflict on Russia's own border, relying solely on the logistical ability to ship half-century old technology into a war zone on the opposite side of the planet that none of its actual troops are involved in in any meaningful fashion.

I couldn't say how much better the US would fare if it were fighting an organized military on the North American continent. But I'm also not entirely sure the Russians or the Chinese are capable of that sort of mobilization for any sustained period of time.

I do not believe that the Russians are very excited at the prospect of fighting America one-on-one. For what it is worth, neither am I. Both sides are fighting with a hand tied behind their back, except that the United States is also doing it from 5,000 miles away. I'd look at that and take a few moments to pause and consider my options.

most of the actual fighting in Ukraine has been with Ukrainian/USSR surplus stock. the first push towards kiev early in the war was stopped with massed artillery and a smattering of NATO anti-tank rockets. While NATO donations have been important in some areas (precision guided missile artillery for ex) it can't account for most of Russian losses. for example all the losses the black sea fleet have sustained has been with Ukrainian designed and built weapons.

The Russians were always going to struggle in this war. they could have probably done a little better without NATO aid but the fact remains that the Ukrainians and the Russians can both field million man armies if need be (things are quite that dire for either side yet). this was always going to devolve into a prolonged trench war because the Russians can't into combined arms and air superiority. the precision of their "precision" munitions is embarrassing. the UKR airforce and SAM network should have been destroyed the first night but in most cases the Russian cruise missiles impacted empty fields around their targets.

The jury is still out on who will win. At this point it looks like it will turn into a frozen conflict because both sides are afraid of implementing a large scale draft.

Every action this administration takes can be easily rationalized by them trying to appeal to twitter/X. It always has been.
THAT is their source of political feedback.
