I’ll admit that I am of the belief that people should be punished for committing crimes, not for their innate desires to commit crimes.

That being said, there’s a glaringly obvious omission in this story: how in earth does the guy know his friend is a paedophile? The people in the comments are the worst. It's clear it is all just one big power fantasy for them. They fantasize about liberating the south from those evil conservatives and becoming a savior, freeing them from all the remorse they feel from being white. Maybe if they did a tiny bit of reflection maybe they would find that maybe, just maybe, conservatives aren't the cherry picked group of racists that their heavily moderated subreddit tells them they are. But if that's true, then politics would have nuance and wouldn't be black and white, and that can't be true, the left are the good guys who protect minorities from the right who will throw everyone who isn't a straight white male into a concentration camp. I remembering going on the front page of Reddit and seeing a post with twenty thousand upvotes of a political cartoon of minorities being thrown into a concentration camp because Trump won the 2024 election and I felt nothing. I have become so accustomed to Reddit bullshittery that its just normal to see such insane shit being said. What happened to politics, what happened to discourse.
