If you don't care, don't post.

Fuck u cunt, I was trying to understand your thought process. Regardless, I don't know how autistic you are about it and I don't know the extent to which how many useless comments are made. In my mind I imagine KF is limited on resources due to just how retarded the wider internet is towards it, and if I was looking at monthly stats for the site and saw that 15% of my traffic was being driven by pointless comments that didn't need to exist, I might want to temper it simply due to it being a waste of resources, whether it really matters or not. Grains of sand form a desert type shit.
Making a reply takes the same amount of bandwidth as browsing the forum really. The only thing that it takes up is marginal disk space which is in the grand scheme of things quite cheap. Images are a bit heavier but not by much. Null's problems aren't with resources, its with connectivity and censorship.
But that wouldn't stop retards from clicking the featured posts and going "LOOOOL NIGGER JEWS! WHO CARES! GOOD!" and other retarded nonsense in the first place. Although it might cut down on additional retardation once they know said thread exists.
Thats why you'd also need heavier moderation on the threads after a feature. Let the LOL NIGGERS posts stay in the megathread and only allow high quality posts in the featured thread, best of both worlds in my mind.
Featured posts could have a notice that says short, unhelpful, and irrelevant posts will be removed and possibly result in a threadban.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that I don't care how much of a giant fucking retard you are.

I don't know how people don't feel embarrassed when posting what amounts to "I'm devastatingly ignorant and annoyingly loud" in featured threads they didn't know anything about. I do feel like reading OP's, reading previous pages and using the search function should be encouraged to avoid the same "idk what's going on" post every page. The Ed Piskor suicide was such a prime example of people just flat out refusing to engage beyond what could be spoon fed to them as if they were a jawless brain damaged baby.

I'm going to compress Josh's post into one sentence. "It's annoying".

I tried posting in the happenings thread once and it got deleted. So I'm just like "fuck it" and don't bother to try anymore.

Hi there! BP-dwelling oldfag here. I've mentioned this a couple of times before, in chat at least, maybe not in such a visible way, but does anyone remember that the old phpBB boards had a reputation/comment option? It is the comment part that would be useful here - you could leave reputation points on every post in a thread, positive or negative (like or dislikes basically), and when you did so, you could optionally leave a comment that only the poster could see.

The farms is the only message board I post on anymore but I find that, sometimes I'm reading back years-past in a thread and would love to add a comment about a years-old post, but it is not germane to the conversation anymore (some threads move way too fast to keep up) or it would be something that only the poster would appreciate in the context of that thread at the time. If there was a rep/comment feature here, those comments could be made without shitting up the threads and it might also cut down on those "I don't care" posts? I don't know what that would look like from a server storage space standpoint or how hard that would be to implement for our vast array of users but I've noted numerous ways I could use it.

Because I'm a wordy ass:

TL;DR - Can we have comments to go with our stickers m'lord? Like in olden days?

I agree with what Null is saying in essence, but most OPs would benefit from improving their summaries more regularly, so that it's easier to catch up if you're unfamiliar with the lolcow/whatever the subject is and not need to make a dumb post without sifting through 900+ pages of history.

I wish more people would post more things. Part of my highlights of coming on here is loading up that thread and getting a curated selection of the funniest, more relevant, or outright weirdest threads. Some of my favourite threads have come from people posting updates. When people slow down on it or it's just the same 4 cows, it gets kinda boring.

It's been pretty funny to see this in action on the games section over the past bit with SBI/DBD/HD2 drama. Threads that only get a couple posts a day or a handful a week suddenly getting 30+ pages tacked on with some just being "lol" or "Video games? Why would I care about that?" like they'd been forcibly dragged in from somewhere else. The juxtaposition is interesting. Personally, the "I don't fucking care" posts are kind of funny in how blasé they are, even if non-contributive, but I'll take them any day over attracting users who just can't help themselves and want to derail yet another thread into a multi-page off-topic spat. I don't think any forum software can solve that, unfortunately. Still, I'll be happy to see what you might cook up in the future with the rewrite.

I'm glad someone finally acknowledged this. It really boils my piss when nice, cozy threads get completely shat up by attention-whoring retards after getting featured.
This is a reason why the Patrick and I.K Rowling threads often do not share funny happenings as frequent as they happen. Out of fear of being featured

I respect the solution Null has come up with. Hiding all posts in the immediate aftermath of a feature could bury juicy replies, auto-banning any sort of message content (whether it be reposts or memes) might lessen the context that the tourists are actually interested in, and the nuclear option is to just go full reddit and hide posts that don't get enough stickers.

However, I am concerned of specific threads that are featured constantly. Say a die-hard Bossmanjack fan decides to go rogue after losing his last donation to a crack pipe, joins the forum, and then decides to post an elusive video of said crack pipe. Their post would get deleted, since the BMJ thread is a happenings stock ticker.

This may be a non-argument since highly watched threads are often nurtured by jannies, but it might apply to a couple of smaller threads.
(I'm a fan of the bants, and BMJ is an easy example in this case)

As much as I enjoy Bossman content, seeing like 15 posts of "DUDE HE JUST LOST IT ALL HE'S BACK UP AGAIN OMG IT'S GONE" across 2 pages in the Habbidings thread was fucking annoying. At this point him winning and losing several tens of thousands of dollarydoos is bordering on a nothingburger. Feature him when he gets a skull fracture, breaks the door over his head or "accidentally" tosses the bong at his dad.
Stuff like that really does clutter up things. He's been up 5 digits a hundred times and lost it all, does anyone really care the 100th time he does it? I hope stuff like this is part of what gets pruned.

Are non funny off topic threads allowed to be posted to community happenings or can it only be internet drama stuff?

If the amount he earns and loses is a new record I think it's worth featuring, because what astonishes and amuses me is how he will earn increasingly outrageous amounts of cash and still blow it in a few minutes like a retard. "What goes up must come down" is a natural law with him, and part of the fun of BMJ is wondering just how far "up" is going to go.

But if it's an amount lesser than his current record I don't think it's worth featuring for that reason alone, only if he has a dramatic spergout about it or something else funny happens.

I'm not autistic enough to go into a thread and whine about not giving a shit about a topic but I do think the Cummunity Happenings thread needs more moderation, do we seriously need 6 posts about bossman losing money in gambling? Like seriously page 227 is 30% Bossman posts.

Of course we need Bossman highlights.
