that's right, jannies, clean it up so that the site is enjoyable to read. thank you for your sweeping, and slobbering over the forum. i like the idea of the time between opening a new featured thread you've never opened before and being able to post there, and without the reddit points we've all been deprogramming ourselves from i think the reason most people would post in a new thread before they've properly read it is to leave a drive-by comment saying "this shit's crazy," and leaving. exciting days to live in where kf is up and the forum is discussing new features.

In case of featured megathreads (like furry drama thread) I think it would be better if instead of featuring the post in the thread, it would be better to move the post to start an entire new thread discussing the feature, this way there will be lower risk of shitting up the thread in question.

@Null Question regarding this topic, it sounds like you're basically saying "KF is a place where we have a thousand dedicated threads to discuss the topics of the threads, not to comment 'this is retarded, who cares.'" if what I'm saying is correct, is the result you're trying to gain a more high quality forum user who is here to interact and provide meaningful commentary rather than the average "Poggers/This is stupid" Redditor, or is it more of a "We are working with limited resources here, we can't afford to become a place where half the users and there for half the posts/comments/replies are just interacting for interactions sake"?
do you seriously think a post takes up a considerable amount of resources bro?

I've seen lots of posts on happenings threads where its perfectly clear that the user hadn't read a single post in the thread and basically responds directly to the featured post.
Finding a threads though happenings is fine but if you can't be asked to even skim the op or just reading a few pages back just don't fucking comment. You'd expect people who use a forum that is primarily text to be able to read but I guess not.

I think it's more that those posts are incredibly fucking aggravating to read and shit up the threads they appear in so badly that thread regulars actively dread the thread being featured, so they don't post in Community Happenings. The Happenings thread is the best way (for me at least) to maximise my time-to-quality-khantent on the site, especially as I don't have as much time to spare on here as I used to. I don't have time to be reading hundreds of pages of random threads in the hope that something funny might happen.

Having a containment thread is a novel idea, but I imagine it will be rather resource intensive on the moderator side.

there is a type of user I will call "feature tourists" who violently shit up every thread that lands on the front page.

I am guilty of doing this whenever it is a featured thread about another forum user or if everyone is already in there shitposting, like with the broccoli incel. I will use the "featuredness" of those thread to selfishly promote my cats. most Despicable act since Enron I am ashaemd sorry

In support of this I’ve seen some featured posts with text like “the dedicated I hate trannies reaction this time is :optimistic: - if all you want to say is trannies are gross please use this reaction”.

Perfect for various types of features.
That's what shit up the kefflas thread. New users would join to spam YWNBAW. There are a few accounts who will post things like that in threads featured in community happenings.

Just wanted to repost my suggestion from the last time you floated this idea, since I'm not sure if I agree with just locking people out from replying for a short while the first time they open a thread.

I'd add that locking people from replying the first time the open the thread will just incentivize opening all the threads at least once just in case so you can get your epic one liner in if that thread ever gets featured.
It would also mean features on brand new threads would lock out basically everyone. I do like your solution though, hiding retarded replies while promoting good ones for a few pages after a feature would probably work best.

It definitely shouldn't be much different (at least i think so) than having to delete the posts post factum. This isn't even a super new idea - I mentioned Furry drama general megathread specifically because in last few weeks/months each time it was featured, mods later moved lots of posts later into a newcontainment thread.

If the big problem is that the unpaid mods struggle to moderate tens of off-topic posts in a featured thread, I think making separate feature threads would be a good idea or at least worth considering for certain threads.

Personally do not think that adding stuff like "if you hate trannies, then react with X" at the bottom of feature post can make much of a difference as people will likely still ignore the warning or even make low quality posts to spite people.

Back in my day, if some folk were talking about a certain subject that I took no particular interest in, I would at least have the good decency to take a shit in an empty Folgers can and lob it at they asses! We used to be a real community who respected one another enough to properly fling shit at each other like responsible adults. When we start just saying "don't care" like a bunch of uncooth savages? Where my forum gone?

How about a featured posts megathread where people can react to and post all of their low quality shitposts in response to any newly featured posts similar to how the old community happenings thread allowed people to sperg about discuss happenings in the thread. Then just highly moderate the actual thread that was featured and remove/move any low quality posts that belong in the megathread.

Your drive by catting though is always nice in a thread.

I never mind summarizing things in my threads since I've maxed most of the OPs character limits and cannot edit the OP continuation posts since they are other pages.

But that wouldn't stop retards from clicking the featured posts and going "LOOOOL NIGGER JEWS! WHO CARES! GOOD!" and other retarded nonsense in the first place. Although it might cut down on additional retardation once they know said thread exists.

I don't understand why it's so hard to leave a reaction sticker on the post then go on your merry way. I only comment on featured posts if I have a reason to. If I don't care about the story I never click it in the first place. Why is this so hard for people to do?

Fuck u cunt, I was trying to understand your thought process. Regardless, I don't know how autistic you are about it and I don't know the extent to which how many useless comments are made. In my mind I imagine KF is limited on resources due to just how retarded the wider internet is towards it, and if I was looking at monthly stats for the site and saw that 15% of my traffic was being driven by pointless comments that didn't need to exist, I might want to temper it simply due to it being a waste of resources, whether it really matters or not. Grains of sand form a desert type shit.
