They've been in a graphical arms-race for decades now, at the expense of basic fundamentals, when the average gamer really doesn't care thet much. Nobody cares that your PS5+- or Xbox720X3One! can render photorealistic 5 o'clock shadows at 150 yards away from the troon hero of the latest AAA shovelware title. They just want a fun, entertaining game to play and escape reality for a while. That's why Nintendo is succeeding where the others are failing. Gimmicks like the WII shovelware titles and accessories, or VirtualBoy aside, they've always focused more on the fun factor compared to anything else, and they've been successful for decades because of it. Sure there was a time in the 90"s-2000's where they were getting their lunch ate by SEGA and Sony, but they kept on their same path for the most part. Yeah, they might get criticized for releasing a zillion different Mario or Zelda games for each successive console, but you know why they do it? Because they fucking sell, and they're, for the most part pretty good. It really is that simple.
