I wonder if Nagisa will continue to appear to flesh out his character like in the original manga. His only appearance in the original Urusei Yatsura was in the OVA.

So far the anime never really left any character so I doubt it will be the last time he'll show up, probably get a few more episodes this season.

Kinda reminds me of Gintama in cycling side characters to keep things fresh. Speaking of which, another season down, finally in the filler season. I feel like we got 300 episodes worth of plot in like 50 episodes.

After 12 long years, the saga of Land of the Lustrous has finally ended. I just finished reading the final chapter and I have to say it was a great ride. I think the ending concluded the story, and quite literally the world of the gems and Lunerians quite well. This has to be one of the most creative works in scifi manga that really makes you think about humanity and life, as any good scifi ought to do. Fellow kiwis, what are your thoughts on the end of this long running story? Did anyone else think Phosphopyllite's final form and act of sacrifice kind of mirrors Matoro's from Bionicle?

Idk what's about otokonoko shit which is so prevalent that every single 80s manga had at least one episode (in city hunters case, multiple cause hojo is a fucking perv) dedicated to a tranny or some variation of cross dressing. But at the same time those trannies are at least nice degens and not annoying degens.

The terrible "Akito the exiled" and its many many many movie delays of that 5 movie spinoff series really was the final nail in the coffin for this franchise. Which might be what you're talking about. I tried to rewatch it a few months back and it was as horrible and full of comedically cringe edgelords as I remembered.

Was a nice palate cleanser to discover MD Geist. Helped me forget about the lancelot being an overused deus ex machina device showing up just to ruin a ton of actually decent moments in the series.

akito in my option was good fun until the ending. Completely undid the tone of the rest of the show. Look I like happy endings but I don't like half assed happy endings

I was also hoping it would build into a sequel. I really like the ideas of franchise prequels that build up characters or villains for a future sequel to the main work. That's apparently hard to do, I haven't really seen it be a thing.

I like the dub for Innocence, although it kinda feels like more of a stand alone complex story up until the end.

But without any artifacts and just explorers randomly dying and freaking the hell out and never actually taking the time to even scrawl down what they saw that was so bad. They also keep rehashing this plot where we are supposed to give a shit about Hei's sister but it just feels really forced in there. Because there is no direct context onto why they were in South America in the first place and the second gate is only ever indirectly named on a map seen briefly. Apparently there was a war or they were mercs there? There's nothing but hei having PTSD attacks over turning some enemy combatant trying to kill him into a makeshift swingset in self defense and his sister deciding this was as good a place as any to just suddenly lose the will to live and die next to a giant mud puddle under a clear night sky.

Darker then black is an absolute classic anime and you're crazy. Admittedly it was my first ever anime along side 00 Gundam but dude... Its good shit. It oozes style and imagination.

To be fair, it's been a long time and season 2 did have its flaws but I love hei. I love the assassin with a heart trope and I haven't found anybody better in anime. If you hate his character then I kinda get it, but I think he's very well done.

Im still pissed he never got a videogame.... But he did star in a big ass anime crossover.

Otokonoko is Japanese for "male daughter" basically the Japanese version of Thai ladyboys. They act like women as well, not like the kind of narcissist troons you see in the west. Colloquially they are called traps although that could just as easily refer to crossdressers which these aren't. Reminds me, you guys should read family compo, wholesome troon fun.

I love this kind of thing and I love this series but my thoughts for the entire ending were basically a mix of disbelief and amazement that it was still going. In a good way, like I was generally wondering if this was some meta gimmick where the author would somehow continue adding new and more abstract chapters for the rest of his life, and it made me nerd giggle every time I saw a new issue pop up.

The middle act sagged like a motherfucker but the beginning and ending were strong. It was at its best when it maintained a strong alien atmosphere, which it did most effectively at the beginning when you had no idea what the fuck was going on and were still taking in the weird way this universe worked, and again at the ending where it was full of abstract Buddhist philosophical ramblings, billion year timeskips, and a side of talking rocks. It ended up concluding on a pretty heartwarming note.

I turn 77 today, reinforcing my title as Oldest Living Fansubber™. It reminds me how long I've been doing this (17 years - not as long as some, however), how many groups and people I've worked with (dozens, hundreds, respectively), and how few I've met in person (one). Most of my early colleagues have left the scene. Simultaneous streaming dominates anime. That's not a bad thing; anime is more accessible than ever before, to a wider audience. But fansubbing has shrunk to a fraction of what it once was.

I started in 2006, quite late in life. I had never watched anime as a child, because there wasn't any available in the US in the early 1950s. The arrival of cable TV in my rural town in the late 1980s ignited my interested in anime, thanks to the SciFi channel's annual anime movie festival. Then, in 2005, broadband Internet became available here, and I tapped into the proliferating fansub community via Internet Relay Chat (IRC). I was mostly a lurker, but one I day I offered some suggestions about improving Anime-United's release of REC. The group leader replied that if I thought I could do better, I should join their team. I did, working in QC.

Anime-United broke up almost immediately. The remnants, including me, were absorbed by a larger and better group named Yoroshiku. My first project there was again REC. With a few months, I had started editing; my first editing project was Tactical Roar, still a sentimental favorite. Later in 2006, I joined C1, again as a QC, and moved into editing there in 2007. For the next few years, I worked wherever I could, including now-defunct groups like Black Order, Animanda, GotWoot, Mendoi, Ureshii, and Erobeat (where I edited 80+ hentai scripts). However, I refused to take any competency tests. Believe it or not, in those days, major groups tested applicants for translation, editing, typesetting, or QC positions. I thought my work spoke for itself. Or to paraphrase the great Danny Glover, I was too old for that shit.

Working across so many groups, and accepting any and every script that was thrown at me, dimmed my initial enthusiasm, and at one point, I took a six months' "sabbatical" from fansubbing. When I started again, I worked with fewer groups - mostly Ureshii/Frostii/Monokage, FFF WhyNot, Kiteseekers, and Saizen. The tighter focus also allowed me to learn some additional skills: I picked up some basic timing and typesetting from the experienced staff at these groups.

As I've documented elsewhere, I also started my own group, Orphan, tentatively at first. It became my main focus when simultaneous streaming made fansubbing of weekly shows irrelevant, and mainstream fansub groups began to wither. Orphan flowered in the mid teens, releasing up to forty shows a year. It has now slowed down considerably, as have I, but the team still manages to crank out a project once a month or so.

The list of people to whom I am indebted - for teaching me the ropes, for giving me opportunities to try my skills, for supporting my efforts to subtitle old shows - is very long. I'm not going to list names (or handles, rather, since I rarely know real names), because I don't want to slight anyone by inadvertently forgetting to include them. You know who you are. I'm immensely grateful that you afforded me the opportunities to participate, contribute, and learn.

This is not a valedictory. I've worked on more than 3,000 scripts so far, and I don't intend to stop. I'm set in my ways, but I can still, under protest, learn new tools and techniques; for example, I use Discord now as well as IRC. The anime back catalog is far from fully explored. In short, subtitling anime remains a diverting hobby. Maybe it's even useful.

He was fine in the first season and OVA's with the romance subplot being the highlight of the show for me. I was more talking about his appearance in the manga intended to replace the second season. Where he goes out of his way to pick fights with random strangers just to impress Yin.

Could definitely see a spiderman kind of game being built around Hei. Since he always makes using a grapple hook look cool.

Code geass was my first anime and its definitely been sad to see the worsening sorry state the franchise has been in every time I check in on it every few years.

Between failed gachas and outright retconning elements of the first season to tell a worse story with more OCDONUTSTEEL characters that outright didn't exist in 2006 and the "Oz of the reflection" autism never being adapted to English despite the JP fanbase holding it in high regard enough to be a part of the new gacha's story.

They even tried to set up lelouch as a potential villain at the end of R3 after telling a poorly done time travel story. No its not a CC and Lelouch time travel story. That would be interesting like what they did with some audio dramas. It was the antagonist of R3 being some random sandnigger woman commanding jihadi mercenaries that kidnapped the empress of britannia/nunnally and being able to reset the timeline by killing herself and lelouch had to defeat her with 4D chess moves. There was some more interesting exploration of geass culture and ruins that still has a forerunner mystique to it, and they never linger on it too long.

I also liked that part of Akito with the geass advisor and like to pretend she's some kind of Caretaker AI that was left behind to watch over Earth as the only survivors of the geass civilization and the writers didn't quite know how to explain that.
