Ukrainian Defensive War against the Russian Invasion - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

what could possibly be done to 'counter' mines? except for "just don't drive where there are mines haha" memes of course

There are 'active' things like rolles, forward mounted detectors, etc.

But for armor, basically spaced hardened steel angled to channel the blast away from the vehicle and its occupants.

Russian vehicle drives over a mine and explodes spectacularly.
But you see comrade western vehicles explode on mines too. Now yes in those csses the whole crew walks away, but why would want to do that? To survive mine explosion means to continue to live as Russian. Death is preferable, yes?

Serious answers, besides those already mentioned? MCLIC & similar immediately comes to mind, and now drones using IR/UV MAD, even lidar for spotting & detection.

Honestly Putin must've thought Biden would soil himself and babble, and the EU would send a stern letter. Obama is clever while Biden is in a state of decline. Putin must also have seen the rest of the European leaders from Scholz to Macron and thought this is it.
Feel like Putin underestimated how much a refugee crisis would cause Europe to care deeply about helping Ukraine. When Crimea was taken it didn't lead to millions of Ukrainians leaving the country, whereas the full on invasion has resulted in enough destabilization that Europe is forced to care.

I legitimately don't know why you Bongs keep pretending its an MBT when everyone with a brain knows its the Churchill Mk VII resurrected for the modern day.
Wrong again, stalker child, it isn't a Churchill. It is in fact a TOG II with upgraded armour. Enjoy penal brigade.

Ok, in all seriousness, it goes almost as fast as a slow horse.

But no, really, it's actually pretty speedy. It would outpace Fatrick running to a free bar and buffet, despite being ever so slightly heavier than he is.
True, but then the engine needs to be taken out for a complete overhaul, much like Fatrick's heart after that dash. The Meteor was the best tank engine you guys ever made and that was a V-12 that barely managed 50 horsepower over the V8 Ford GAA. When we added another four cylinders back onto that we got the GAC which cranked out 770 horsepower for the same displacement.

There's a reason you guys got the anvil job in ODS/Granby and that's because your tanks would have shat themselves and died trying to do that desert dash we did. Hell, they were shitting themselves and dying just trying to get ready to move to the front lines.

Memes aside, that was the OG Challenger, which is an almost completely different tank to the Challenger 2; it was also the 90s updated Challenger, which was a radically different tank to the vehicles that rolled off the production line in the 80s. The original Challenger also still holds the record for the longest tank-on-tank kill in history. The 2 is very heavy, but it can get up to 40 mph on the flat and it excels as both a sniper and a bunker buster.

Just don't ask it it climb a hill.

Putin's war of conquest is deeply pathetic.
Because it is just a special military operation. War would be very different:
Do you know the signs of a clash with the Russian army?
The first sign is the failure of all means of communication, the complete discharge of batteries in vehicles, tanks and other equipment, at the same time the discharge of batteries in mobile phones, in sights, in radio stations. Then there is a break in electrical circuits in all equipment - any. This is EMI. All engines stall, there is no way to start. This is how the Khingan system works, with a radius of 20 km.

The second is the complete failure of all systems using liquid crystal monitors, the failure of all target designating devices of the air defense system - the radars are dead. The Altair system is in operation.

The third one is refusals when trying to use any type of guided weapon - from MANPADS to ATGMs. When you try to use the shells, they self-destruct immediately ... This is the "Mercury" system - on the basis of MTLB such an antenna is high, now the Russians have it in every battalion. Works on a 15 km radius.

Fourth, it is impossible to use unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). They either fall, with the failure of the navigation system and the engine, or sit down at the location of the Russians. The Krasukha-4 system disables the on-board equipment of airplanes and any other aircraft. The Avtobaza system intercepts control of drones. The Russians presented it to the Iranians, and they stole the most secret US attack drone "Kandahar Beast".

Not everyone will have time to see and understand the fifth sign. This is the phenomenal accuracy of artillery fire from a distance inaccessible to artillery in most countries of the world. Artillery reconnaissance and guidance stations of the Russian army operate via satellites and their own drones. The Russians have modernized the shells, they are now with a homing system, they have become longer and carry more explosives.

Dozens (hundreds, if necessary) of combat helicopters, riding all the roads, begin to hunt in the rear for armored vehicles, trains, and cars. The railway was paralyzed, arrows were broken, bridges were blown up.

In the rear, the lights go out - the substations are broken. Civilian and military headquarters in the rear and individual leaders are liquidated at a time by infiltrated groups in advance.

And then ... Thousands of fighters descend from heaven - assault battalions of the Airborne Forces and the GRU special forces ...

The very moment of destruction of an air defence unmanned surface vessel (https://t.me/fighter_bomber/16609) with the remaining R-73/R-60 by a Ka-29 crew.
The first missile went for Mi-8. It didn't hit.

CHASIV YAR ⚔️

For a month now, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine's KRAKEN active action unit has been defending the city, which has become one of the symbols of courage and resilience of the Ukrainian army.

The warriors are heroically holding the defence, destroying numerous enemies every day, burning enemy armoured vehicles and taking prisoners.

The enemy is trying to advance from different directions, but thanks to the unit's well-coordinated work, there are no occupiers in the city at the moment.

All it would have taken would be a small show of force sailing a US carrier strike group into the Black Sea and politely telling Russia to withdraw its troops out of Ukraine.
A carrier in the Black Sea would be like shooting fish in a barrel.
Tell me you know nothing without telling me you know nothing.

That's a bit of a wild over statement. Putin's red hordes have added some towns and villages to that strip of blood, rubble and mud they've controlled since around early '22. That's it. US aid has resumed, which should help restore Ukrainian initiative. Even if not, Putin's war of conquest is deeply pathetic.
And they did so with every advantage.
One has to wonder if the snails-pace of Russian offensives can be maintained with fresh ammunition, more ATACMs, F-16s set to arrive shortly, and apparently Ukraine has an indigenously-designed cruise missile now.

I'm fully aware of the size of the Black Sea I'm also fully aware that the Russians would never attack a US carrier strike group due to the fact that russia is a tin pot dictatorship
maybe you should understand the concept of gunboat diplomacy and the only people who talk like that are redditors so go back there

the reason Joe Biden is speed running Jimmy Carter's Geo politics disasters is because no one's afraid of creepy uncle Joe because all of his threats are toothless like all Democrat administrations the last Democrat who actually did something when he said he was going to was Bill Clinton and the whole Serbian conflict was more due to the fact that he was about to be under investigation for one of his top advisors selling US secrets to China so he started a war

Plus there's the problem of the Navy getting it there to begin with, unless they plan on having the Marines haul it over the Bosporus on foot Fitzcarraldo-style.

It also ignores the fact the US cannot legally send an aircraft carrier in the first place due to the Montreaux Convention

Right, I don't even think carriers are a permitted type of military vessel to pass the straits under the Convention. Maybe small helicopter carriers but definitely not a Nimitz or Ford class carrier. They wouldn't even be able to clear the bridges.

Still like the idea of forcing Marines to carry an aircraft carrier on foot across the Bosporus though. Payback for all the Army jokes.

Ukraines strategy still seems to be to just keep bleeding Russia out. However long that takes. I think in the back of their minds they are wondering if the Russian Army and Economy will break World War 1 style after another 1 or 2 years of this. Something has to give eventually. Questionable if Ukraine even has the manpower for it though. Fighting a war of attrition could just easily lead to Ukraine cracking before the Russians. That said, I am pretty sure 2024 is going to be really boring with lots of incremental and ultimately meaningless Russian gains where they de nazify another 1 km of front. 2025 will be the decisive year of the war, because by then the US elections will be over, the EU "should" have finally gotten the supply bottlenecks in their Military Industrial Complex worked out , and Russia's 2 week SMO will be careening into its 4th year, something even the most retarded Vatnik would agree is not "cash money". Russia's politics and economy are very good at pretending to be stable, until you wake up one morning and they are playing Swan Lake on state TV.

Still holding to the general theory that great power wars almost never go longer then 5 years. Something always starts to give in the 4th year.

Putin's inauguration took place, and the Muscovite church was heavily involved. Caesaropapism is a longstanding tradition in the Moscow Patriarchate and not even the Soviet government was bad enough for the church to reject it.

"Whether the head of state wants it or not, but they take an example from him, he is really becoming an example for young people, for the military, for intellectuals, for workers - in general, for everyone who seriously thinks about himself and his role in the life of the country. You are such a good example, God help you to continue to carry on the service that God has entrusted to you, with love for the Fatherland, with courage," the patriarch said, addressing Putin.
The clergy prayed for granting the head of state "strength and wisdom" to govern Russia, where peace and prosperity should reign. Then at the service they sang a tribute to the president.

"The blessing of God, the cover of the Queen of Heaven may remain with you all the days of your life, until the end of the age, as we say. And with boldness I say: God grant that the end of the age may mean the end of your stay in power. You have everything to perform this great service to the Motherland for a long time and successfully," Kirill said during the service.

Patriarch Kirill wished the Russian president God's help and said that the ministry was entrusted to him "by God himself."
[...]
"In the blessing that Patriarch Kirill gave to President Vladimir Putin, there is some similarity with the anointing of the kingdom, which was performed by the Church before the 1917 revolution, it (similarity - ed.) is that both then and now it is a Church blessing, which is given to the head of state. But the state system then and now is different, and, of course, it is impossible to call it identical or at least very close in rank", - said Vladislav Tsypin.

He reminded that the anointing ceremony is "a complex, long service, during which tsars, and then emperors, were anointed with myrrh". Myrrh is prepared from pure olive oil with the addition of white grape wine and various fragrant substances, it is considered sacred, kept in the altar and used in the sacrament of anointing, which completes the sacrament of baptism, as well as at the consecration of new thrones of temples.

"This rank was first performed over Ivan the Terrible. With some variations it was then performed up to and including Nicholas II. In fact, anointing is the highest blessing that was performed in the Church, because the ministry of the Tsar, the Emperor, was the highest. The tsar was anointed with peace and blessed for life rule," the historian noted.

Navalny did a documentary about Putin's palace some years ago.
English subtitles:
English dub:
A lot of it is about nepotism and corruption. At about 54:41 it begins to go into the palace itself, which was very interesting. I didn't know that kind of furniture was even still being made. Of course it's not Russian.
