Sony hate thread

The one person 1 copy restriction proves that there are tons of (chinese) exporters for software as well. There's no reason to buy multiple copies of the same game.

I'm dumbfounded that Japan is on that list. The fuck kind of sense does THAT make?
Like Helldivers 2, Ghost of Tsushima can be also purchased directly on Steam in Japan.

I'm starting to assume the steamdb list that keeps being referred is about third-party storefronts and region-locked keys activation. At least in Japan's case.

Japan hasn't been a console market for quite a while. It's all handhelds.
One of reasons being living space being a premium instead of being base over there.
Ironic considering that's where Playstation came from in the first place.
I'm impressed people still try to claim ignorant opinions about Japan (and its language too) as facts in full confidence.

And handhelds such as the PSP, DS and Vita are still consoles. I dunno why English-speaking users love to play mental gymnastics over this word of "handheld" on the topic of consoles like they're mutually exclusive things, whereas they're simply called "portable consoles" in my native language for example. In Japanese, consoles are referred as ゲーム(game machine - 'geemu ki' ) with the portable consoles literally named "portable model game machine" (携帯型ゲーム機 - 'keitai-gata geemu-ki' ).

The v2 & OLED Switch is a home console in addition to be a portable console too, thanks to its hybrid feature. As a home console, the Switch is the cheapest system on the Japanese market while it's been receiving nearly all the third-parties that Playstation possess, in addition of the obvious Nintendo first-parties and other exclusives. There are hit-sellers like Ring Fit Adventure and Momotaro Dentetsu which prioritize home use over the portable one. The OLED model is also a more successful variant than the portable-only and cheaper Lite model:
(as of May 05th 2024)
NSW OLED (37,980 yen - released in October 2021) - 7.195.696 units
NSW Lite (21,970 yen - released in September 2019) - 5.833.845 units
NSW (32,970 yen - released in March 2017) - 19.786.390 units
Playstation has gone full retard by chasing after the premium business model of console gaming while its entire identity & success based on third-parties is melting like crazy.

I've already posted it in the past, but PC gaming has the fastest-growing market in Japan in the last five years, which is essentially eating away what remains of the Playstation market over there. The article below was from a conference talk during the Tokyo Game Show 2023 between Valve employees (Pierre-Loup Griffais and Erik Peterson), Harada-san (from Bamco) and William Yagi-Bacon (Capcom).
About 40% of the JP users in Elden Ring and Armored Core VI are PC users. Even in console competitive games such as Tekken, about 30% are PC users.
We also have indie Japanese devs prioritizing PC (Steam) with eventual Switch ports down the line, while Playstation is an afterthought if not straight-up ignored in most cases.

The issue of living space is an absolute coping meme from people who only look at the worst cases within the Japanese capital city as a frame of reference for the entire country.
And I say this as someone who used to rent small spaces (iirc it varied between 7m² ~ 15m²) in metropolitan areas on my own country, which never stopped me from owning a desktop PC and a home console (PS3) either.

Yeah but why? 0 reason?
Because they don't support those countries. That's their reason and it's all they need.

Probably because they're poor and can't afford the 15$ pice tag that would be hundreds of dollars in their currency. Just an idea.

It's also countries not in the UN that aren't recognized. So could be that.

And that guy who thinks handhelds are consoles, no they're not. They are handheld portable phones/tablets.
They're not a console and never will be. Even steam deck is dumb and not very good.

In all sincerity, do companies really hunt down and attack random Joes that pirate a game or two? Feels like it'd be a waste of time and resources.
Sometimes. The process looks something like this: They hire copyright trolls (lawyers) to watch the public swarm of IPs that use popular torrents, who then send emails to the providers of those IPs, who then forward the email to their customers/call them, and tell them to knock it off or they're going to surrender their information to these lawyers. At the end of the day you are breaking the law and they can very easily prosecute you. Whether or not it's worth it for them is a different matter, I would say it depends on the company. A large one with lots of resources like snoy or jewtendie would prosecute just to send a message. At the very least, if you live in america or a similarly kiked nation, you must be sure to mask your identity with a VPN.

Is Ghost of Tsushima even worth pirating?
If I'm being fair, yes it's pretty good. Your enjoyment is going to depend heavily on your individual tastes though.

It's higher quality than your average Assassin's Creed game but very much that style of gameplay with a million map markers, and bandit camps, and worthless collectibles.

If you like that sort of thing go for it. I primarily play RPGs and strategy games so even though I though it was pretty solid my enjoyment only went so far.

I sure love almost being totally locked out from my PS3 recently thanks to their inane security measures. Without finding an internet forum telling me I had to turn on 2-step-verification, I would've been totally fucked.

Fuck off, Playstation.

Bungie, owned by Sony, have launched Marathon 1-3 for free on Steam, no PSN required and, for bonus lulz, so far isn't coming to PS5 :story:

So all the Sonyggers complaining about how whining, bitching, moaning steam users are pieces of shit for daring to defy Sony and their log-in details, they are rewarded with nothing, while Steam gets 3 free games.

Stay winning, PC chads.
It's not Bungie, its the Aleph One team. Bungie made the Marathon engine open source right before Microsoft bought them, under GPL-2, then in 2005 they allowed the games themselves to be distributed for free, and since then the Aleph One team have been maintaining and modernizing the games. The Steam release is completely Aleph One, not Bungie, they just got their blessing and I guess Bungie saw fit to tweet about it to build their goodwill for the upcoming Destiny expansion, which they have been desperately doing whatever they can to bolster their playerbase for. Going so far as to finally add long requested features people have been asking for for 10 years.

Bungie is desperate and this is free PR for them pretty much.
