Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

Pets don't make a person "give up" on conventional family raising.

I'm a lifelong bachelor who also doesn't want kids, has never wanted them, and knew it by Junior High.

I currently have a dog.

I am under no delusion that having a dog as a pet is a replacement for raising a family, It's merely for companionship.

Some people can lose it and start treating the dog as if it were their human family, unironically, but, it's probably not the norm and not even close.

For most, I'm willing to bet my bank account that the decision to not have kids comes first and foremost, and is not influenced in any way by having a pet at the same time or later. And most people probably know very early in their lives that they aren't interested, they just stay noncommittal on the surface for years to dodge uncomfortable questions and nagging from family members who want them to be "normal".

For some reason they have six or so German Shepherds, though, which I also thought was kind of weird, but whatever.

I’ve noticed a rise in GSDs in the shelters and dumped in my area the last few years and thought it was kind of weird, too. For a while, German Shepherds didn’t seem that common to find unwanted.

I think its because the breed is now a genetic disaster thag requires expensive surgery. They take em to the vet because they are fucked up and then abandon them when they find out how expensive it will be to improve or manage the condition.

Not to long ago we only had the 1960 ones but in the last, 10 years there is only the modern version. I have not seen one that can walk normally in years

It is in the UK. Owners - especially Pibble "mommies" - are notorious for treating their dogs as a substitute for offspring. Most dogs are extremely poorly trained as a result.

If you wanna buy a house you need capital, kids cost capital, where i am its estimated it will take 12 years for an 18 year old to collect enough money to afford a home deposit

And the worst thing is that the standard for the race has been altered from it being a working dog to a show dog with the kyphosis of the spine and hip dysplasia being awarded traits at dog shows. Swiss whites/Canadian shepherds remain true-ish to the original form of the breed, and are fantastic breeds to keep.

A man and his mother have been jailed after admitting being in charge of an XL bully dog that caused "catastrophic and life changing injuries" to a boy.
Liverpool Crown Court heard the dog subjected the eight-year-old to a vicious and sustained attack in Bootle in February.
Lewis Young, 30, who was the owner of the dog, and his mother Amanda Young, 49, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury.
Lewis Young was jailed for two years, while Amanda was given 20 months in prison.
The attack happened just days after new rules governing the ownership of the breed were introduced in England and Wales.
The court heard despite the law change, Lewis Young had not registered his dog or applied for an exemption.
The hearing was told Young had left his mother in charge of his pet at their flat on Wadham Road on 10 February.
It heard witnesses tried frantically to pull the dog off the boy as it attacked him.
One man described how the animal was frothing at the mouth and shaking the boy’s head.
In a victim impact statement, the child’s mother said his injuries, which included a fractured skull, were likely to affect him for the rest of his life.
The court previously heard the dog, called Snoop, was seized by police and later destroyed with Lewis Young's agreement.

There are good reasons why someone wouldn't walk up and slit its throat, gut it, or blow its brains out. You're killing one dog to save another you don't own which could be a legal nightmare(not a legal expert, but I know different states/localities have different wording for defending yourself, defending another person, and defending your property with deadly force). You might immediately get jumped by the gutter trash NPCs surrounding the dogs(see the random guys in the video getting into an argument because one dared to call the ravenous velvet hippo a "piece of shit"). If things get confrontational or legal there's a realistic chance golden retriever mommy/daddy decides you used too much force and should've shoved your finger in its ass or whatever retarded shit they come up with after the fact. You get the wrong combination of all these things and suddenly you'll be a beaten mess under investigation by the city PD and prosecutors for pulling a gun or knife on a poor defenseless nanny dog.
