Its more "vietnam vets are getting shafted by society. I thought this was america.".

He initially wrote it during the Nebraska sessions as a possible title track to "Born on the 4th of July" when it was in pre-production. It was in development hell for most of the 80s.

Of all the fast food joints to enact this policy, it had to be Trump's favorite. Guaranteed he's going to be all over this one.

The margins on food are take thin, but huge on soft drinks.

Yeah the syrup that goes into soft drinks is a few cents if even that so it’s another way to squeeze a couple more dollars out of people. Neoliberalism is killing the fast food industry; it’s cheaper and tastes better to make food at home these days. If you have to go to a restaurant, a local sit down restaurant is likely cheaper these days too. No reason to go to a McDick’s these days since it has neither taste, convenience or cost going for it.

Only if the people with debts see an increase in their income which is greater than the increase in their cost of living. If their wages rise 5% but their rent, groceries and gas all go up 20% they're going to suffer from inflation.

Yeah, the local cafe makes great food and hasn't really changed prices or *serving sizes in years. You get probably twice the food you get at any fast food joint, for way less price. You can get a very large double cheeseburger with a basket of spicy fries for about $10 altogether, including a 44oz drink with unlimited refills. While at Burger King just the sandwich alone would be $10, and the cafe cooks theirs better.

*They did change the number of southern style fried chicken strips from 3 to 2 last year, but each strip is literally larger than a chicken sandwich you get from any fast food place, and people were actually complaining that 3 was too much, they also dropped the price by a buck when they changed the portion size.

I haven't eaten at a McD's in over a decade, it's been overly expensive since Obama when the dollar menu turned into the Dollar or More menu with everything at least $1.50. They turned the old $1 double cheeseburger into the mcdouble to try to hide the inflation when all the minimum wages went up, and it's been ever more expensive since then. Service and quality of food has gone way down too, according to everyone I know who works there. Burger King hasn't really changed quality, but prices are very high.

I know things are fucked because these days fast food costs me what I used to pay to go to a diner. A diner costs what it used to cost me to take my woman out to a restaurant. And restaurants cost what it costs to go to some high end Michelin rated bullshit.

Seriously - a few weeks ago I was too lazy to cook so I called to the local pizzeria for pick up. Rigatoni alla vodka, a Chicken roll, a large pie, and a tiramisu. I showed up and the bill was fucking $70. That's criminal. Back to home cooking it is.

Of course for reference, I'm in NYC so I'm already fucked because it costs a fortune just to look out the window here.

The desperation from the Silicon Valley is stinking to high heaven. I log into Youtube and they are shilling fucking Jon Leibowitz like crazy to me. I click "don't reccomend this channel to me" and it just immediately sends another Leibowitz short my way. Holy fucking shit. 5 times in a row, ComedyCentral and TheDailyShow and shit all in a fucking row until it finally got the message and sent me some funny geese doing a funny.

It's middle May. We are still 6 months away. This election is gonna be insufferable.

There was some HBO show or something in the past few years. I forget what it was called. The main character was a black music executive in Atlanta.

He would walk into McDonalds and fill his cup with soda without paying on the regular and just walk out. Frequently enough that it was a point in the show to present this. If it had been codified so much that it was in television like this you can only imagine how widespread this is.

Free refills were a thing because soda fountains are almost free by themselves. Syrup and soda water cost very little. A single $4 soda paid for many refills by itself so whatever. So just imagine how much they've been getting tore up for and for how long that it was no longer cost effective to bother with them.
