Culture Kill la Kill Creator: Anime Fanservice Is Necessary or "Everyone Will Die" - The creators of Studio Trigger's Kill la Kill make a bizarre case for the show's fanservice, arguing that it's necessary for the fate of humanity.

The creators of Studio Trigger's popular Kill la Kill anime series have made an intriguing case for the show's blatant fanservice, arguing that it's an essential component of both the medium and the show itself for the fate of humanity.

Japanese outlet Febri spoke to Kill la Kill writer Kazuki Nakashima and director Hiroyuki Imaishi. As Nakashima joked that bathtub peeking scenes were probably off-limits these days except for a good reason, like a character's life being at stake, he outlined his view on fanservice somewhat more seriously. "We're making a commercial work, so we want the audience to see it. I don't care if they say, 'I don't get it,' but I don't want them to feel unnecessarily uncomfortable. On the other hand, if we make the work completely sterile, people's immunity will be weakened, and they will all die. Therefore, there is a way of thinking that we should dare to take on the stigma and transmit harmful things to the public."

As Imaishi and Nakashima laughed, the latter continued, "We do it with the high aspiration that 'this is necessary for the immunity of human beings.' We'll never be appreciated for it, but we're willing to go out in disgrace for the sake of humanity. There is a way to do it with that kind of feeling (laughs)." Imaishi added, "Be that as it may, I don't want to perish if I can help it."

Kill la Kill was the first televised anime series by Studio Trigger and one of the most popular anime of the last decade, ranking 55th out of over 20,000 anime on MyAnimeList (1.7 million members). It represented the beginning of a slew of original works, with Trigger now well-known for maintaining a consistent aesthetic of loose, dynamic art across all its anime. Their titles include the popular Darling in the Franxxx, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Kiznaiver, Little Witch Academia and the currently airing Delicious in Dungeon on Netflix.

Kill la Kill streams on Crunchyroll, which describes the series: "After 6 years since their collaboration on the ground-breaking anime series, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Hiroyuki Imaishi and Kazuki Nakashima are back to shock the world! Ryuko Matoi is a vagrant schoolgirl traveling from place to place searching for clues to the truth behind her father’s death—the 'woman with the scissor blade.' The journey has led Ryuko to Honnouji Academy."

Too much fanservice in Anime is a thing and I got a problem with it depending. However Kill La Kill is solidified as the fan service show and it works to such a great degree that it gets a pass.

Don't bring that weak shit energy in here. Back in the 90s we weren't filled with soy and microplastics and there wasn't porn everywhere. Your choices were limited, girls were thinner and hotter, it was a better, more civilized time. I'm sorry that later generations grew up with the testosterone of old men when they were in the teens.
If it's weak energy why's it got ya explodin huh old man????? I am the plutonium bullet to your gay bud, "oooooo I need high school panties to enjoy japanese cartoons" don't care still going to torrent let it bleed out no more debtmaxxing no more heroes, enjoy your old man memories of women being meth smoking supermodels thin as A5 paper and yell at that cloud cause I am killin this broken machine that made me wait eons for more Dorohedoro because of some gay chainsaw guy 😎😎😎😎😎😎

They aren't real, and I thought troons had a problem telling fantasy and reality apart!

But there is another reason why most anime and manga are set in high school, or have teenage leads (apart from being the target audience) is that work life in Japan is fucking harsh! In Japan, high school is the most fun and flexible time in a person's life, when they still had some freedom, and dreams before being thrown into the meat grinder of the Japanese labour market. They literally have a word over there for working to death (Karoshi), so let the poor overworked Japanese salaryman enjoy his big teen anime titties in peace.

China and South Korea also have similar words for working to death. (guolaosi and gwarosa, respectively) However, their media doesn't (?) lean as heavily into teenage leads, and their governments seem to be more against escapism, i.e. China being a total nanny-state, and things such as 996 work hours don't help, and South Korea tries its hardest to take the bad aspects of East Asian countries (i.e. suicide rates), and make it even worse. K-Pop stars and Korean E-Sports players being pretty much slave labor in terms of the amount of work people in those industries have to do, would put Japan's meat grinder labor market to shame. Both of those countries having porn bans, and yet they don't fix their birth rate issues, is also noticeable.

just weird to see the people who are cool with chopping the dicks off of children freaking out about animated 16-to-25 year olds

...yeah I think it's the other way around. The people who have a hair up their ass about troons also have one up their ass about weird Japanese loli shit. There's a reason why the stereotype of the troon with the anime avatar is heckin real and valid.
Nothing will be worse than what Ikemoto does to Sarada in Boruto. If you aren't familiar, read the original Boruto manga Chapter 13. That one has gotten infamous for making everyone want Ikemoto's hard drive examined by the FBI. She's 10 years old by the way. What he does is weird even by Japanese standards.

Hell when they started the time skip and switched to Two Blue Vortex's, the very first page is a full body shot of Sarada's new design as a 13 year old. Now with less clothes than her old design. They put that before the fucking title page.

Seriously I am 100% convinced that Kishimoto's assistant, Ikemoto is a 1000% bonafide pedophile.

Yeah. Uh. Based on that ringing endorsement I don't think I will read "Boruto."

Somewhere a long the way literally everyone has turned into a boring ass moral scold for one side or the other and this borderline Gen Xer finds it incredible weird. You fucking puritanical Millennial, Soylennial, and Zoomie fucks, they used to mail fucking soft core porn to every house in America for the Holidays and no one gave a shit. Good old Sears Catalog. "Oh my God, is that cartoon of legal age?" Christ Above, it's like none of you had girlfriends when you were teenagers.

Get with the modern standard, she's under 25, her frontal cortex hasn't fully matured yet.
People who think 'coomerism' is a new problem really don't understand how fucking common porn was. Like they had straight up theatres that just showed porn, peep shows, etc. 'Coomerism' is not a new thing.

Also you joke but I've unironically heard the below argument.

Most of the people freaking out about age issues, anime or real life, are typically Leftists, the people on the Right dislike anime for any number of reasons of which Loli is just one. Loli, however, is a bit different from characters meant to be of legal age for obvious reasons.

Also you joke but I've unironically heard the below argument.
It's the dumbest shit in the world, but considering it's mostly made by Soylennials and Zoomies it means sense. They're spiritually children basically forever, they certainly age like they're 12 going on 50. Also any Zoomie girls floating around, the high-waisted jeans aren't fooling anyone, we know you're fat.

South Korea is like if all the memes about Japanese issues were true. It's honestly basically a dystopian cyberpunk hell when you look into it. A country where everything is run by four extremely large corporations, and where your whole future depends on passing a test to get hired.

It also has a very strong feminist bend to it, and was literally run by a feminist cult.

You know, all this talk of age of consent really is pointless. There's only one man who's opinion on anime fanservice truly matters. I think it's time we summoned him to settle this debate once and for all.

@Save the Loli The time has come for you to embrace your destiny.
He's right. I feel the casual fanservice in so many classic anime helped give the genre a fun flair, but now you can't even show a dude looking at half-naked chicks at the onsen or a single upskirt shot. Anime is so bland now.

Most of this forum has never had to know the struggle and cannot understand.

Nice bait headline. But yes, Anime Fanservice is something that must stay around. For starters, gives an appreciation to the human body. Secondly, as weird as this sounds, gives people something to strive towards. Hot chick in an anime? For men, the pursuit of beautiful women and as for women, an ideal they must at least try to meet. Hot dude in an anime, gives men an idea what they should strive towards (Not all female fanservice have twinks, there's buff dudes too) and women, a standard they like to hold men to.

Now, this is exactly why the woke is trying to infiltrate Japan and destroy fanservice for men. They want to replace beautiful women with fat and ugly ogresses so they don't have to improve themselves. Meanwhile, female fanservice remains untouched. See how modern woke movies (Thor Love and Thunder comes to mind) have ugly female leads but attractive muscular guys. Other than that, bog-standard Communism in demoralizing everyone.

Kill La Kill also had those MILF oppai for true connoisseurs:

Imagine having her as a mom and Gendo as your dad. You are guaranteed to turn out fucked up.

And hilariously, doing far worse than North Korea when it comes to birth rates. Meaning, in a generation or two, all the North has to do is just march down and unite Korea.

Worst Korea is so bad, an entire dystopia franchise came out of it just to bitch about the conditions. Its called Lobotomy Corporation.

it seems like people were less sick-minded and perverted during the 2000's and early 2010's despite scantily-clad women being in every song and advertisement
I don't know how old you are or if this is some kind of joke I don't get, but this "uglification" shit started in the late 00's. Anita Sarkeesian's first big hit was a good two years prior to Trump's emergence to the scene - around 2012-2013. That was when it got loud and nasty, but it was creeping up prior to that.

In gaming the first breakthrough game to my recollection that went all-in on it was Mass Effect: Andromeda but again you can notice both creeping in prior to that.

I have no fucking idea where you got this idea from especially given how utterly fucking degenerate the internet itself was prior to social media and smartphones sanitizing it practically overnight.
