5 FUCKING ADS
Yeah using the internet in general is more or less impossible without a decent ad blocker these days, even when using a search engine. I made the mistake of launching and actually using a web browser without setting a blocker up first in a fresh VM the other week because I was a bit lazy, instant regret. Never doing that again, I knew it had gotten bad but holy shit I had no idea it was that bad

Recently looked up something related to the stock market on my new normie phone (I haven't deleted android yet or even gotten rid of chrome) and I got 5 FUCKING ADS in a row on my search and 15 more fucking sponsored pages and after scrolling for 5 minutes I failed to find anything I was looking for. All of the sources were from 5 different websites and lasted for multiple pages, it was all AI generated fuckshit and most of the info in the sites I clicked was just a repeat of the first 10 sponsored results. Google is literally unusable at this point and between this, gemini, and the data scraping I think the complete failure of it's search feature might finally be the straw to break the normies back and end Google's hellish monopoly.

Here's hoping when Google shits the bed retards don't repeat what lead us here in the first place and are pony up the money it takes to fund a private search engine and video hosting site.
Remember trying to find information about a friend's dexcom/omnipod system and if they would be compatible with new android smartphones soon (because for some reason, they aren't). Queue ALL of the fucking ads in the search results instead of the actual information I'm looking for, which was a treasure hunt to find. Also, queue nonstop facebook ads for diabetes medicine/supplies. It's all so tiresome.

I signed up to specifically vent about this.

Yes. Search has absolutely gotten fucking worse. Google, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Bing... you name it. All useless. I remember back in the early 2000's I would get half a million relatively relevant, unbiased and interesting results on some arbitrary query. Now I'm lucky if I get even a 100 useful results. Fuck it pisses me off.

I figure its the result of governmental and business interests getting involved and control the flow of information. I would not be surprised if government agencies have gotten exclusive access to the same free search interface we once used to have. They probably decided it was too much power for the single average internet user.

TOR is not even a substitute for this. Its got woes of its own that do not come anywhere remotely close to the old internet.

Ending my rambling here . On a final note, Kiwifarms is probably one of the last few corners of the internet that reminds of what the old internet used to be like in the early days.

chatGPT is so much better than google at almost everything
Its ok, but every time I have asked it just above the most basic technical questions, it starts creating commands that don't exist, or overly complicated solutions. I just end up looking at the docs for whatever tool I am using and make it myself.

works on my machine. I pay $20/month for the good version though, but it's way smarter and can search the web for documentation.

Maybe that's it, idk. When searching up Django documentation, it kept giving me complex solutions for things that already had built in classes.

Lately I've been seeing a number of "answers" to questions that are "for sale" (for high prices) in Google Images results -- looks like images for sale somehow? Maybe it's some AI-generated thing? The legality of such sales looks "sus" to me. Here's one example that showed up in Google Images when I was looking up SW stuff (for some reason):

technology How do the star fighters in Star Wars fly with no side thrusters? Science Fiction Fantasy Stack Exchange - Online Store (site is storkclips.net)

It's not an image for sale? This is one of those sites that sell "merch", you can get basically anything printed on a shirt or a coffee cup or whatever from it. They've been around since the 90s, it's just previously you had to actually upload your picture and crop it to "fit" on whatever you were buying, whereas now their web crawler just auto-"fits" everything.
Like you could get a shirt with "AC/DC" printed on it for a tenth of what an official merch shirt would cost, just it's a bad idea to do that when you could get a higher quality merch shirt copy on aliexpress for the same price.

I'm just sick of all the pro-antisocial propaganda making excuses for every opportunistic shitbag under the sun. Countries used to hang traitors spamming divisive lies militantly like this once upon a time.

Mind you these are also the irrelevant bullshit articles and clickbait that populates the first several dozen pages when trying to look up something completely unrelated like better art shading techniques.

Was listening to Peter Boghossian's podcast the other night. Due was saying how they are already capturing AI because in the future, they want all search to run through AI, so if they capture it now (see google gemini and it's hilarious response of black nazis), the social engineering will already be engrained by the time search fully implements AI.

Norton released new browser and something that my lazy ass had never gotten done, it had Bing as default browser. Kiwifarms.st top result searching this shithole.
Mine just got better on some things.
I have used Bing often before though, but for some things google seems better. Maybe it is just using Bing more, but I do feel like search has improved from the worst it has been.

*side note about the browser. In every other browser there feels is feel of awkward transition from Chrome, but this did not. And I feel like I entered warp speed from from Chrome that was always laggy and occasionally freezing.
