Kyoto government worker assaults coworker for spoiling popular manga series

TOKYO——
Just from its name, you’d expect the Kyoto District Legal Affairs Bureau Uji Branch to be somewhere in which all employees have a strong respect for law and order. The office handles things like maintaining family registries and processing the legal paperwork for things like real estate purchases and the establishment of new businesses, so following proper procedures should be pretty much baked into the atmosphere.

And yet, a manager at the Uji Branch found one of his subordinate’s conduct so inexcusable, so utterly reprehensible, that he felt compelled to put a stop to it as quickly as possible, even if that meant resorting to violence. So the manager, a man in his 50s, grabbed his 20-something subordinate by his chest and kicked him around the waist.

The subordinate’s transgression? Spoiling the latest chapters of a manga.

Granted, the manga he was spoiling was "Oshi no Ko" (whose anime adaptation can be seen in the preview video above), one of the most popular currently ongoing manga series, and one that fans love for its dense, twist-filled plot. On the other hand, assaulting a coworker, and one you have authority over, isn’t an acceptable way to make sure you can go into material you haven’t yet read still fresh.

The incident took place on February 1, when the subordinate began talking about the series’ latest developments in the office. According to investigators, the manager did at least say “I don’t like spoilers,” but it’s unclear if he said this before or after flying into a rage and attacking the other man. The manager has since transferred to the Kyoto District Legal Affairs Bureau’s head office.

The subordinate did not suffer any injuries in the attack, but he did file a report with the Kyoto Prefectural Police’s Uji Precinct, which in turn referred the case, with assault charges, to the public prosecutor’s office at the end of April. It remains to be seen if the case will go to trial, as admissions of guilt are fairly common in Japan when the prosecution has a strong case, and odds are the accused doesn’t want to be sitting in a courtroom when "Oshi no Ko’s" anime adaptation’s second season starts this summer.

seriously I've even gone hard on the other side, cruising up a major highway with a sign in my back window of SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE that fateful day
I fully understand I would have deserved an ass-kicking had I gotten one

The thing that gets me about this is that a man in his 50’s violently assaulted a coworker for spoiling a manga that looks like this:

Isn't this what the anime/manga industry typically turns out these days anyway?

Then again, if you lived in Japan and had no chance of having anything beyond a shitty closet apartment and no money to start a family with, your options are limited so why not fill the non-working hours with mindless entertainment...

fucking looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

shame the autism react isn't clear about if it's the post itself or what the post references (in my case it's that sperg in his 50s not you)

I enjoy spoiling shows and then antagonizing my coworkers into fist fights. I’ve helped my boss fire like 8 niggers this way.

This is worth a thread. Please make one.

The appearance of the cover is much more deceiving than you think. The manga's plot is about the harshness of showbiz and idol culture, so all of it's volume covers have a very glitzy saccharine vibe to juxtapose that.
Its actually pretty alright.

The series is about an idol that got violently murdered, leaving behind a son with a grudge that is willing to do whatever it takes to find her murderer - while keeping his twin sister protected and in the dark while she works towards being an idol like her mother. It has enough testosterone.

I wonder if it was a one time thing or the straw that broke the camel's back.

You've forgotten to include the son and daughter being incarnated after the former being a 30 year old surgeon thirsting for his (now dead) mother. And the siblings being incestuous themselves. If there's testosterone it's Louisiana flavoured.

Sounds more like something a teenage girl would enjoy tbh.

I think the pupil shape is clearly inspired by star rubies/sapphires, extremely rare gems that display a star comprised of 3 white lines when cut in a specific manner.

Do the cover character's
weird pupil shape plays a part in the story or it's just something added because the author thought it was cool?

Yea. Each one of her twins has one six pointed star pupil, and it represents the mothers ambition or how closely they are aligned with the mothers personality and her ability to capture the audience.

The third picture that Breadbasket posted isn't a child of the mother, but an actor who is method acting so hard that she is able to channel the mother's personality that it feels like it's really her.

The worst thing about Oshi No Ko is the last like 30 chapters have been really disconnected, littered with pacing issues, and the writer has taken the nonsensical approach of storytelling where we don't know any of what the main character is thinking and only observe him from passerbys outside.

Its killed a lot of the goodwill the manga had going for it. I cannot imagine violently beating anyone over spoiling the non-sense that's been going on lately.

In theory. In practice the writer/artist who collab on this series, especially in the last month or so have completely lost track of what colors are supposed to be there or not. We've had multiple star color changes in the main character with no discernable reason to the point that you can't really trust it anymore, which is a shame.

A big part of the series used to be things like when a star would turn back or white, or how crazy it was when a chapter ended with Ruby (the MC's sister) getting double black stars in both of her eyes and electing to find and murder her former doctor's murderer.

But it feels like the stars are now whatever color Aka needs them to be in order to add artificial tension/sweetness to a plot now.
