Kyoto government worker assaults coworker for spoiling popular manga series

TOKYO——
Just from its name, you’d expect the Kyoto District Legal Affairs Bureau Uji Branch to be somewhere in which all employees have a strong respect for law and order. The office handles things like maintaining family registries and processing the legal paperwork for things like real estate purchases and the establishment of new businesses, so following proper procedures should be pretty much baked into the atmosphere.

And yet, a manager at the Uji Branch found one of his subordinate’s conduct so inexcusable, so utterly reprehensible, that he felt compelled to put a stop to it as quickly as possible, even if that meant resorting to violence. So the manager, a man in his 50s, grabbed his 20-something subordinate by his chest and kicked him around the waist.

The subordinate’s transgression? Spoiling the latest chapters of a manga.

Granted, the manga he was spoiling was "Oshi no Ko" (whose anime adaptation can be seen in the preview video above), one of the most popular currently ongoing manga series, and one that fans love for its dense, twist-filled plot. On the other hand, assaulting a coworker, and one you have authority over, isn’t an acceptable way to make sure you can go into material you haven’t yet read still fresh.

The incident took place on February 1, when the subordinate began talking about the series’ latest developments in the office. According to investigators, the manager did at least say “I don’t like spoilers,” but it’s unclear if he said this before or after flying into a rage and attacking the other man. The manager has since transferred to the Kyoto District Legal Affairs Bureau’s head office.

The subordinate did not suffer any injuries in the attack, but he did file a report with the Kyoto Prefectural Police’s Uji Precinct, which in turn referred the case, with assault charges, to the public prosecutor’s office at the end of April. It remains to be seen if the case will go to trial, as admissions of guilt are fairly common in Japan when the prosecution has a strong case, and odds are the accused doesn’t want to be sitting in a courtroom when "Oshi no Ko’s" anime adaptation’s second season starts this summer.

Imagine losing your cushy government job over this shit. Spoilers suck, but it's not the end of the world.
In fairness, from my understanding of Japanese work culture there’s not such thing as a “cushy” job. On that note, my understanding of Japanese culture suggests that the assaulter is probably gonna find himself splattered on the pavement next to a 10 story building, or 41%ing in his apartment.

Nigga you know Oda is gonna drop dead before finishing.
I thought that too but he seems like he's "rushing" to a conclusion in the latest arc or two. Maybe I'll wander over to the One Piece thread to talk about it. I wouldn't be surprised if he finishes up before the life expectancy wall hits.
Oda-sensei = 49
Managaka avg = 62.6
Japanese male avg = about 81.5 post-Covid

I think the shock over Akira Toriyama dying made him realize that he could be next...

Since a few years ago, Eiichiro Oda has been given a certain amount of weeks to rest in-between, which is exceptional as a mangaka working for a weekly serie.

Monthly series (releasing a chapter of around 20 or 30 pages a month - see Dungeon Meshi, The Bride of Brittany, Keyman, Arte, Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari, Goblin Slayer, etc.) are more frequent in the Japanese comic industry and much more manageable for artists.

The thing that gets me about this is that a man in his 50’s violently assaulted a coworker for spoiling a manga that looks like this:

For fucks sake man, at least consoom some gookslop with some goddamn testosterone in it.
It's a series intended for adult men, believe it or not.

These past few years have been awful for mangaka. I think Araki is killing them to harvest their blood. Why? How do you think he keeps his youthful looks?

All I'm saying is that this will be 100x worse as One Piece draws to a close.
That might actually be the reason Japan has been hellbent on combating piracy and leakers. Shounen Jump might legit be terrified of the leaks during the final chapters because it could affect sales. Oda might lose respect of his peers should it come out the leaker was one of his apprentices or a SJ editor. Hell, wouldn't put it past a miffed editor leaking stuff because he's upset Oda has practically free reign over his creation. There was already that one Dragon Ball editor who cried about that not long ago.

Never mind that leaks on a regular basis tend to be because a disgruntled employee or insider is hating the direction things are going and are trying to warn the masses. Sure, you get your trolling "Snape kills Dumbledore" on top of it, but most examples are more the former than the latter.

> testosterone
> manga

Anon I...
Clearly you never read Berserk or Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Western entertainment in general is so cucked, even I find some shoujo manga or manga with female main character to be more testosterone-filled and another thing, they treat male characters much, much more sympathetically and still dignified than any Western soyjacks that write comics and games.
