Oh, I can explain this, but it kills my previous joke.
There's a reason he got the chop before the choppers.
His student insurance plan likely covers gender surgeries and treatments. However, he's likely not going to be continuing in school for much longer and would have no way to qualify for insurance coverage other than a marketplace plan (expensive).
In short, it was now or never. He might never have such good insurance again, especially since many insurers are likely to stop covering these surgeries as time goes on and the lawsuits take off.
