If you've been around opioids or opioid users for any length of time, there are unmistakable signs and Nick doesn't display any of them. No scratching his nose. In what way is current day Rekieta "amped up"? Nowadays you can tell when a clip of his is from early or late in a stream because he sinks into his chair as the stream goes on.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much point there is in speculating about it. If Nick is taking something new Aaron will spill the beans eventually even if in a roundabout way as he copes about his divorce for the 40th show in a row or whatever: "I've got 3 kids. I can't be partying and doing [insert name of drug here] every night."

Nick's claim is that he he needs to go to the doctor to renew his narcolepsy medication. Since the only medication I am aware of that he currently uses is the Provigil (trade name for modafinil), it is probably that. However, curiously Nick says "one of my narcolepsy meds", maybe there's something else now?

Nick previously claimed for a long time that he almost never takes the Provigil and only does it when driving long distances.

He now admits that he is taking it more regularly: "I don't use it very often, but I now have to kind of use it a little more because of circumstances changing." This probably refers to having to get up earlier in the morning more often.

For the first time ever, there was a "curveball", because Nick's doctor insisted on a battery of tests before renewing the prescription: "I've been prescribed this for fucking years, I've never had to do a blood test on it, but okay."

I don't know about amped up but he certainly seems to get a bit of an energy boost after 'bathroom breaks'.

As for modafinil, won't amp you up, the effect would be closer to preventing your energy levels to tank and dispelling "brain fog" as it were, while it is a stimulant it is a non-amphetamine based one and (it is theorized) it works by increasing dopamine levels by partially blocking reuptake, meanwhile meth hits you with no reuptake for 12 hours and more or less "frying" the nerve terminals out due to having the accumulated dopamine sit there firing 'pleasure' nonstop.

Needless to say I doubt he is or has ever been on meth, he would have had at least a period during his career when he would tweaking the fuck out for 12+ hours before frying his entire's brain reward system, makes it all the more impressive that he still manages to look like a meth zombie.

Cocaine, another drug people are theorizing he might be on, works similarly by blocking dopamine transporters (the thing integral to reuptake), but only for 1-2 hours. You might be able to get a slightly better idea of what he could potentially be taking depending on both the length and strength of the bounce he gets when he goes on a 'bathroom break'.

If you're looking for proper confirmation, yeah you'd have to wait for SteelToed, assuming he doesn't just embellish details out of spite.
