Congrats, you annoyed me enough to longpost!
TTYD isn't one of my favorite games. So let's use an example from one that is.
Mother 3... and you don't see me throwing a conniption over the fact that the Magypsies exist. Know why?
One is the author's original intent, the other is a change introduced by localizers to a character who was a MAN and was always a MAN.
The Magypsies work great to dispel your "argument" as their gender
is plot relevant, compared to Vivian who is just a side character in a Mario RPG. They are creatures who look like men in drag that have no gender.
Their gender is very important to the story as they were written that way on purpose, Itoi wrote them to contrast with the main characters, and to show the player not to judge a book by it's cover.
And again, you don't see me throwing a fit over them. Do you?
Why is it so important to your side that this change clearly introduced to Vivian's character for culture war reasons be taken as "how it always was" and is "plot important"
This was a change in localization, true.
However, you're also wrong. So did the German version.
Now, pettiness aside... The fact this change was made also breaks your entire argument. Did the story lose anything because Vivian was a woman in the English and German versions? No.
This change wasn't made because it was important. It was made because of culture war reasons. It was made to satisfy troons on twitter.
This isn't authorial intent. Vivian was written as a man who was comfortable enough to dress like a girl and was placed in a group of women, women who constantly made fun of him for that fact. The original japanese script would have actually been
more ballsy to keep nowadays, because it would have gone against the tranny idea that if you dress like a woman, you are a woman.
No, Vivian was bullied because he is a man. It was to show how his sisters treated him poorly, compared to how he was treated when he joined Mario. It was to establish Beldam and the other one I'm forgetting the name of as villains, so that when the player fights them again after getting Vivian, it is satisfying to defeat them.
What is it with you troons and claiming "media literacy" and yet you can never fucking understand media, at all?
Who fucking cares? This thread is about Paper Mario, not the gay character in Assassin's Creed. The current discourse you are trying to weigh in on is a change made by the localizers at Treehouse to fulfill a culture war agenda.
I brought up a different game, sure. But that was because you assumed everyone's favorite game was TTYD. You brought up a different game... Because a character is gay?
How does this matter to the topic at hand? Who was getting up in arms that a character in Assassin's Creed is gay?
It doesn't. TLDR: Eat Shit. Get Better Bait. Fuck off back to twitter.
