I meant “major dialogue changes” and “[non-major] story changes”, but I can see how the wording could have been better; sorry. But as for those dialogue changes, it’s not just a few lines, but a bunch of stuff throughout the entire game like the aforementioned Vivian (which I’d consider a story change because it alters character motivations and backstory, plus most of the dialogue that she’s involved in)/Hooktail/Goomba trio changes. Some changes are purely political, some are unpopular changes to reflect the original Japanese version (like Hooktail’s weakness being changed from frogs to crickets then back to frogs), others are made for seemingly no reason like the Shadow Sirens being renamed to the Three Shadows. Even the tiniest things have to be changed like Bowser no longer calling Kammy an airhead since that’s too sexist or something. It’s a death by a thousand cuts situation, and not something that can easily be overlooked by someone familiar with the original. There seems to be a misunderstanding. then. When I hear "story retcon," I interpret it as something which doesn't align with preestablished lore which interferes with the stories of earlier games or later games. This is a rewrite, not a retcon.
You seem to be under the impression that I welcome this change, and I do not. I consider the writing inferior because of these edits to the game's dialogue and characters.
