Ding Dong is genuinely funny. Julian not so much in the older ones but he's gotten funnier in the episodes where he and Ding Dong have returned.

Ding Dong plays well with Chris and Julian. Ding Dong's streams on their own quickly devolve into him beating himself up and whining because he's a narcissist. Even having Julian there cheers him up considerably.

I will also point out the majority of Oneyplays' popularity and original jokes stem from the two fags vs. Zach, Tomar, Lyle or any other replacement. Something about the current arrangement saps Chris' creativity. You can hear it in his voice when you compare the old DD+J videos vs. more recent ones. Or just watch one of those older videos where Chris is capable of putting random people out of breath because he's just that amusing to them:

I won't humor the Zach schizo but I will say that as early as Sleepy Cabin I got the feeling Zach relies on 3 jokes which he repeats endlessly. It feels stilted.

That put it into words better than I could. Also, Ding Dong explicitly forbid Chris and Julian from repeating jokes at all, so the only times they did it was for good effect. I can still autistically recall the OUYA vid where Chris brought up the boiling milk again and Ding Dong, audibly trying to hide that he found it funny, told him to cut it out.

Also if Chris has such excruciating back pain, to the point he apparently needs to lie flat for the recordings, why doesn't he take his dumbass to the doctor and get fixed up? If he keeps just trying to suffer through it he's gonna end up royally fucking himself over sooner than later. I can't imagine it's solely a money issue if the guy can even entertain the idea of an actual grand piano. Like even the cheapest ones are still upwards of 14k USD. I'd imagine that, if you're a rational adult, fixing your cripplingly chronic back issues would take priority over a piano.

I had severe back pain that lasted weeks that prevented me from laying down. I went to the emergency twice and all the doctors did was give me painkillers and told me that I just have to wait it out. I was essentially told there wasn't much they could do and would only consider surgery if it persisted after a month.

I don't think Ding Dong and Julian have anything to do with Chris being checked out. I think it's a combination of Chris getting older and less interested in let's plays and also him being in chronic pain.

Chris has said many times he's gained a lot of weight and won't go to the gym. He has also mentioned his dad has a bad back but that doesn't seem as relevant.

It is relevant, the causes of back pain can be genetic or environmental.

I think it's a combination of Chris getting older and less interested in let's plays and also him being in chronic pain.

It's probably a bit of everything. I think Julian was right about Lets Plays all along, he didn't want to become a marketable figure stuck on being a Lets Player for all his life, which ironically was what happened to Chris. His vent post in his tumblr gets less ridiculous as time goes on.
