Null's take is that because its a first offense for them that it will be pled down and they won't spent too much time in jail.

That is almost certainly going to be the case. The vast majority of the time prosecutors are looking to book you on the most crimes possible so you will plea down. It's better for their time, money, they don't have to worry about the hassle or unknowns of trial, and they get to have better numbers on proesecutions %.

He's a lawyer. They don't have prior criminal records that we know of. He and his wife will have letters for recommendations that gush about how they're pillars of the community and homeschool and how it's been a rough time but given the opportunity they can turn it all around. My bet would be very minimal time in jail, possibly none, for a large monetary fine and a long probation. I haven't looking into Minnesota's sentencing guidelines at all, so this is just me spitballing and I could be completely wrong.
